2013 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Another win against Tampa last night. Too bad they lost two to the Yanks on the weekend to fall back to 10 games out - it would have been nice to pick up at least one win in those two games to keep pace after that four game win streak. I really want them to start to make up some ground soon - it is getting hard to keep interest if they stay entrenched in last place.

They're getting better. They're slowly inching back towards .500, and they're only 6 back of the 2nd wildcard.

Point taken, but at the same time, there are 7 teams in front of them, one tied with them and one behind them. They still have a LOT of work to do. They can start by winning this series against Tampa this afternoon.

Baby steps.

Great game by Bautista today - 4 for 4, 2 hr, 4 RBI in a 4-3 come from behind win. He tied the game with a homer in the 9th and won it in the 10th with an RBI single.

I was flipping through some stats today and found something interesting / troubling - Jays are dead last in the majors hitting with the bases loaded with an average of .125 (2/16). Both hits were doubles. (Source: Yahoo Sports)

Their clutch hitting/ RISP numbers are awful, as is their OBP and AVG (if you want to put stock into that stat). They really live and die by the HR.

Two that have caught my eye:

In the category of extremely alarming, Lawrie is batting .180.  Missing spring training and all, that's horrid for a player of his capabilities.

In the category of downright comical, Arencibia has a whopping 2 walks to go along with his 55 strikeouts.

Sounds more like a farm team rather than a Major League team.
Okay, I didn't actually mean it that way, but, this Blue Jays team is still trying to find their niche.

Big win last night.

To add to my post earlier, Jays came up with the bases loaded three times last night.

Bonafacio hit a sac fly.
EE hit a grand slam.
Arencibia hit an RBI groundout.

Overall 1-2, 6 RBI.

I was a bit disappointed that Morrow couldn't get past the first two batters of the 7th - would have been nice to see him go at least 8, but a win is a win. He still seems to give up a lot of runs.

Also nice to see the Jays get those 4 in the 8th so that Janssen could sit back down after 2 in 3.

Ortiz.  Crap.

Does it really matter though? Essentially he's a back-up Titanic deck chair being blown off the ship.

It's sad to see.

Remember when we were all giddy with hope? I miss that.

In other new, the Jays outrighted Ricky Romero yesterday, so, he's no longer on the 40 man roster. It also means he cleared waivers, so no one even wanted to take a chance on him for free. Yay.

I think free is a relative term, given the size of his contract. :)

Tyler Beede not signing, what happened there?

Surely they wouldn't let one of the best prospects in baseball leave over money?

The issue there seemed to be that he really didn't want to sign with the Jays. The Jays reportedly offered him pretty close the the dollars he was asking for, but he "felt the commitment he made to Vanderbilt" was too much to overcome.

Perhaps if the Jays were the Yankees instead he might have signed.
