Visnovsky started the season on the IR - gotta wonder if there's something else going on with that guy.

Concussion last year.

Back spasms recently. Didn't sound too bad but he's 38 ..

When he's played recently, he's played pretty well according to an Ilses forum I've read for years.

No doubt he's talented. Off the top of my head I don't remember if he was this injury prone in Anaheim or did it start it Long Island? Didn't he initially refuse to report to LI when he was traded there? Do I have any of this correct?

Took him a few years but Hedman is finally exploding

He finally has an actual top pairing defenceman to play with too in Stralman. Over the past 4 years his most common partners have been (in order): Brett Clark, Eric Brewer, Sami Salo, Kurtis Foster, and Mattias Ohlund. All mediocre/washed-up.

How can Edmonton still be so bad. Geez.

They look like bottom feeders for this year as well. That team is a mess. A lesson for all who say tank for a few years and we will be good.

They aren't bottom feeders because of guys like Hall/RNH/Eberle. They're bottom feeders because their management is a joke.

Has Ryan Smyth been named Assistant GM yet?  It's about time they bring in a unique perspective from someone who hasn't been involved in the organization.  Edmonton's organization is so inbred it is laughable.  A unified thought process on player development and acquisition that just rotates through 3-4 key players over and over again.

It is a very good reminder however that unless your top player is Sidney Crosby or a younger Ovechkin, they can't singlehandedly make your team good.  They also haven't been able to put together a mobile but defensively responsible defense to cover for the growing pains of a bunch of highly skilled offensive forwards.  That just causes far too many problems.

They also can't draft.  Since the lockout (starting with the Crosby draft in 2005) they have 10 players who have played 100+ games.  Only two of them were drafted outside of the top 10.  Those two players were drafted in the 3rd round (Riley Nash and Theo Peckham)

And one of those guys is out of the league and the other isn't an Oiler anymore. That's brutal.

edit: Although not entirely accurate. 10 players with 100+ games yes, but Cogliano and Eberle were both late 1st rounders, and Jeff Petry was drafted in the 2nd round. Still a terrible draft record outside of the 1st round.

I sincerely doubt Eakins lasts past 15 games if this keeps up with the Oilers

Does MacTavish go back behind the bench for them or does Kevin Lowe have a nephew looking for a job?
