@FarhanLaljiTSN: Very real possibility of Garrison to Tampa and Kesler to Anahiem happen today. #canucks

Vancouver's going full-on tank this season, huh?

Sounds like it. Numerous blurbs about them trying to get that pick from Florida also. Tallon said he's making the decision on whether or not to trade it, before the draft. TSN figures around 5 pm.

How would you like to be the Sedins right now?

Kesler deal:

‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun
Anaheim will trade Bonino, Sbisa plus 24th overall pick and teams will swap third-rounders once deal goes through

That will be a 2014 3rd going to Vancouver with  2015 3rd going back to the Ducks.

So cap will be $69 million.

Bruins are already at $67M with only 10 forwards, 6 defencemen, and 2 goalies signed.

There's definitely going to be some scrambling going on for team near the cap.

That's counting Savard though. They won't be able to bring back/replace Iginla, but they'll be fine otherwise.

Mods, delete this if it's considered too personal...but I thought this was hilarious:

I would love to see something like this in the NHL.

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nba-lottery-reform-is-coming/

The league?s proposal gives at least the four worst teams the same chance at winning the no. 1 pick: approximately an identical 11 percent shot for each club. The odds decline slowly from there, with the team in the next spot holding a 10 percent chance. The lottery team with the best record will have a 2 percent chance of leaping to the no. 1 pick, up from the the minuscule 0.5 percent chance it has under the current system.

Didn't know where else to post this, but was just reading a Yahoo article about trading Evander Kane and it mentioned that the Jets GM Cheveldayoff has never made a player for player trade - only picks for players or players for picks.  He's been GM since 2011.  That's pretty remarkable.

It's not entirely true. He's made a couple really really minor player for player moves.

The article he's talking about said he hasn't made a NHL player for NHL player trade yet, which is true.

I wonder how rare that is comparatively though. I mean, in the last two seasons/off-seasons the Leafs did the Gunnarson trade and the Bernier trade but any others? I suppose Liles/Gleason qualifies technically but I have to assume that 90% of trades these days are either player/picks or player/non-nhl player type deals.

The article states that the Jets are the only team to not complete a player for player trade during that time period, and the Wings, Bruins, and Penguins were close with just one.

If we go back to Burke's last year (because Cheveldayoff was hired June 2011) you could add the Franson/Lombardi for Lebda deal (I guess Lebda was technically a NHL player) and the Schenn for JVR deal.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Not doing something over three years that most other teams will have done, say, three or four times isn't super unusual. Especially in a case like the Jets' where they've been building rather than tinkering.
