I tell you, if my last name were Kane I might just decide to avoid Buffalo altogether.

Kane has been charged with misdemeanour criminal trespass and at least two non-criminal counts of harassment in relation to the draft day shenanigans at a Buffalo bar. He turned himself in voluntarily today.

The police statements about what Kane did are...not good:

I'm pretty sure I've tried to defend Kane in the past when Winnipeg reporters were always on him for every little thing, but this is obviously in a whole other category. Will be very interesting to see how the NHL handles this.

Yeah, that's a whole lot of not good. Really does not paint a particularly likable picture, that's for sure.

Nope. That's a pretty disgusting report.

Some in the Vancouver media think he'd be an amazing addition to the team, cheap to acquire, and not much of a distraction because he's from the area and could be properly mentored. Which likely means they'd sell the farm to get him and it would be an unmitigated disaster.

I love this logic. I mean, where do they think he learned to believe this kind of behaviour was appropriate? You generally don't end up as someone who can act like that unless you were raised in an atmosphere where it was considered acceptable.

I feel like this might be the hill Bettman dies on...

Oh of course, but his head will be on the chopping block over this when they eventually lose.

The BoG will move on to their next fall guy and it might not be a smart move because this aside, I think it's hard to argue against Bettman being anything other than an unqualified success for the BoG so far.

Bettman really has nothing to lose by saying this though, it's a tactic and even if unpalatable, an unsurprising one. If they 'lose', Bettman will still be their man, pretty much guaranteed.

Maybe but it seems like the general opinion right now is that anyone playing the game right now is doing so aware of the risks so this is likely more about shielding them from lawsuits from previous players. It makes them look bad, sure, but I don't know if it'll rise to that sort of level.

That's fair I suppose and without the smoking gun there might never be the need for a fall guy who took too long to act.

I thought it was cool to read that the NBPA are introducing health coverage for veterans of 3 or more seasons in the league.

I agree although I think that's the sort of generosity you can expect out of a union where a guy like Mike Conley Jr. is making 30 million a year and back-ups are making 8 figures.

Chiarelli reinforcing his echo chamber, hiring one of the AGM's he had with him in Boston.

Also Tyler Dellow parted ways with the Oilers, I wouldn't be stunned to see the Leafs try to hire him.

Absolutely.

Keith Gretzky, Boston's former director of amateur scouting. So he oversaw last years embarrassingly terrible draft where they went off the board on 3 straight picks from 13-15 instead of taking guys like Barzal, Connor, and Konecny.

He did some fantastic work for Phoenix in the past as well. #sarcasmoff  Seems getting an NHL job keeps you employed for life, success be dammed.
