2016-17 Centennial Leafs General Team Discussion

Someone doesn't have to be lying for you to distrust them.

We will leave this circular discussion now, at that. No need for another battle in semantics.

....
We are set up for the future well already, without the need to add a Lilgegren or Patrick.  There is no need at all for them.  There is a need to upgrade our NHL team perhaps, with a more capable NHL 3-4 D and that is all right now.

I agree that semantic battle are annoying, but I think it's important to use the correct words. Distrust ≠ disagree; that's not "just semantics", that's fundamental.

Back to hockey though: I think we need more than a capable 3/4 guy. This team needs someone who'll bump Rielly down to the no.2 spot. Admittedly, Rielly is still very young and has lots of room to grow, but it's been forever since Toronto had a Norris candidate.

Looks damn good to me and I have watched almost all available games to date.  His slapshot from the point is very accurate and he hits people. He has the size and the skating ability. Kind of says "no fear" to me.
Another great Hunter pick.
Dermott looking better than expected as well.

I mean, as good as he may or may not have looked in 10 games this season, future "Norris candidate" seems like a pretty colossal leap.

I hope that's not too negative for anyone.

It's only a 12 game sample, but this year's Leafs are currently the most offensively eager NHL team of the entire fancystat era:Jeff VeilletteVerified account

I see the 09/10 Leafs on that list, the team that finished with 74 points.....get me off this ride.

The Rotten Ronnie all offence, no defence years.  Babs likes his teams to protect the house a little better than Wilson, methinks.

That Ron Wilson team had a better CA/60 than we currently do now (56.74 vs. 61.95).

09/10 Leafs had a CA/60 of 56.74.  Unfortunately, '16-'17 Leafs have a CA/60 of 61.95  :-[

Something to keep in mind is that the Leafs have had a sort of soft schedule to open the year. Only 5 games against teams that made the playoffs last year and 1-3-1 in those games.

Edit: And only two games against teams who got out of the first round. And they lost those games by a combined 12-4.

Wilson gets a bad rap for his defence, but the issue with his team was mainly the goaltending. That 09/10 team would have been in the playoffs easily if they didn't have Toskala/Gustavsson in net for 3/4 of the season. His 10/11 team was also seriously let down by goaltending in the first half of the season.

Where do you guys normally pull up these numbers so quickly?

I just want to make sure of my assumptions/conclusions before I post anything half-cocked.
