2018 Draft Thread

Maybe it's just me but it sort of feels like there's not much trade chatter out there. I don't know off-hand who could get traded that you'd almost expect to get traded(which tends to be the moves at the draft). Neiderreiter maybe?

There's not a lot about big names that seems to indicate there's trades on the way, that's for sure. The secondary types don't get talked about quite as much in the media - especially when there are bigger stories, like the Karlsson situation or Tavares maybe hitting the market, etc. There's been some talk around a couple guys in Carolina (Skinner and Lindholm, specifically), some talk about Columbus testing the waters in terms of moving Panarin (because he's looking to sign an extension right now), and some other less exciting players, so, one of them moving wouldn't be a surprise. More than that would be.

Grubauer is a player I expect to be moved - he's almost certainly going to trade this summer. Not sure who else, but, I imagine there's plenty discussions we haven't heard whispers of.

Pacioretty is another name that has been mentioned to possibly move today.

Wait, what are the Oilers doing now?

Yeah. He's been rumoured to be on the block since before the deadline, so, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him moved, either. With the season he just had, I imagine his value has taken a hit, and I can definitely see Bergevin not getting offers he's happy with as moving Patches would be a pretty clear signal that there's a rebuild getting going in Montreal.

Oilering. With a smart management group, I'd say this would be a clear signal they're deep in negotiations to acquire someone like Grubauer. But, this is the Oilers, so . . .

Even then, what's the point? That seems like a pretty lateral move, and considering the seasons both are coming off of Grubauer will probably cost more than what they can get for Talbot.

Grubauer is younger, and I'd say he's more likely to provide stable and consistent goaltending; and the Oilers would need to dump Talbot's cap hit to be able to fit Grubauer and still be able to upgrade other areas - especially with Nurse and Strome needing new contracts this summer. It would be more about dumping the contract that recouping assets.

With all of the teams looking for goalies....  does Sparks have value?

would the Leafs trade him or is the McBackup era done?

If they trade someone, as opposed to just letting them battle it out in training camp and dealing with things then, I think they're more likely to move McBackup. Neither will really much value.

Calgary is apparently putting Adam Fox into play, and they are lacking in picks and scoring wingers. Brown + Bracco?

according to Dreger... Jeff Skinner deal is forthcoming

Where are the picks and scoring wingers they want ;)

But actually, Fox or Calgary's Rasmus Andersson would both be intriguing prospect options to look at. I think it'd probably take Kapanen to get either of them though. And while it might be worth it down the line that would definitely be a trade that wouldn't go over very well in Leafs Nation.

Might mean nothing, might mean everything. We'll see in a few hours.

He's weirdly blinking a lot in the direction of the Islanders table.

I forgot how much I dislike the NHL draft for having 50 people on the stage.  The players worked their butts off to get on that stage.  I don't need to watch the owners child/wife announce picks while 30 other people share the stage.
