2018 World Junior Allegations

The survey, commissioned by CTV News and The Globe and Mail, shows 73 per cent of Canadians feel anger about the situation, with 14 per cent saying they feel disinterest, about two per cent feeling satisfaction and 11 per cent who said they are unsure.

[...]

The Nanos survey shows most Canadians oppose (71 per cent) or somewhat oppose (13 per cent) Hockey Canada using part of hockey registration fees to pay out sexual assault allegation settlements. Four per cent support it, while five per cent somewhat support it.

I'm very curious about where these opposing viewpoints are coming from

I would imagine its more lack of understanding of a question.

Rather than saying "I think something other than registration fees should go to paying compensation for sex assaults" they are just saying "I agree with compensation being providing to victims of sexual assault.

Hockey Canada investigating the bare minimum they have to do to get the money flowing again.

Feels like maybe a problem here is the idea that running Hockey Canada is some sort of plum job that anyone would want to hang onto by their fingernails in the first place.

Perhaps they're hanging on to the positions because they feel that resigning will be an admission of guilt.

They might feel all sorts of ways. But if they're more concerned with their own personal feelings of "guilt" or "innocence" than the good of the organization it's pretty clear they shouldn't be there anyway and, at least from how it looks, it doesn't seem like refusing to go is making anyone in the public doubt Hockey Canada's "guilt".

I'm not saying they are correct in trying to protect their "name". Just guessing as to why they don't walk away from the dumpster fire that is Hockey Canada. I mean, surely they can't all think that they're the solution to the current problems.

Like I said, I'm more inclined to think they're trying to hold onto a cushy gig in the hopes that cosmetic changes can satisfy unhappy sponsors. Because, again, it sure looks like holding on is making them look worse, not better.

It's pretty clear that they are fighting tooth and nail to avoid anyone at the organization facing any real consequences for it. Now they're just trying to see if it's working.

A question designed like that is not designed to be a question. It is designed to convince the person responding of a particular position (the media has been too harsh).

The National Equity Fund got a spin-off: the aptly named Participants Legacy Fund; it was scheduled to be shuttered in 2020 but re-evaluation of how SA instances often take years/decades to come to light prompted them to extend it into 2030s. Anyway, if you participated in HC teams or leagues in any capacity and put up registration money, that's where some of it went.

All of this is soooooooo mindnumbingly bad

I think the key here is that whoever heads up Hockey Canada next should definitely write down "Don't Cover Up Multiple Sexual Assaults" on a post it note and put it somewhere to remind them.
