This is getting Wild. Minnesota Wild.

They?re definitely going to make overtures to Judd Brackett but he?s just going to use their desperation as leverage for an increased offer from Seattle.

Kim Pegula told the Associated Press on May 26 that the plan was to continue with Botterill at the helm, citing the importance of the continuity he provided entering an uncertain and extended off-season.

"This decision was made after many candid discussions with Jason during a full review of our hockey operations,? the Pegulas said in a statement on Tuesday. ?We recognized we have philosophical differences regarding how best to put ourselves in a position to compete for a Stanley Cup. So, we decided to make this change.?

What changed over the last three weeks?

According to sources, the Pegulas held a series of meetings with Botterill over the ensuing weeks with a focus on restructuring the Sabres? hockey operations department.

There were ?philosophical differences? in that restructuring process. Sources said the Pegulas sought to shrink the staff, including cuts in scouting and management departments, in order to re-envision how it operated. Botterill was opposed to those changes, potentially viewing it as an unwelcome cost-cutting procedure.

"We're going to get leaner," Terry Pegula said in a conference call with reporters Tuesday. Pegula also declined to commit to hiring assistant GMs for Adams.

"When we were in detailed discussions with Jason and how we felt we needed to move forward effectively, efficiently and economically running this franchise, we felt there were too many differences in opinion," Pegula said.

I feel bad for them; that's terrible ownership and HR management.
The Leafs had their similar purge following the 2014-15 season, but that wasn't a blatant cost-cutting scheme.

Don't need to think too hard about who those sources might have been. They've probably been keeping this all bottled up for awhile.

I'll bet Eichel has serious regrets about the term he signed.

I have a feeling that Eichel has Pegula's number on speed dial.

If that's the case, I'd be very cautious to apply for the position of GM in Buffalo.

Maybe, though, these dismissals are hardly undeserved. The Sabres GMs haven't exactly provided Eichel with any real support or depth, and have made a number of questionable deals.

And, truthfully, I think Pegula is the reason to be cautious about taking any position in the Sabres' front office, not Eichel. I'd want input from my top players - and a lot of GMs to get input from their roster. I don't want ownership meddling with the on-ice side of things.

That's what I meant.  If Pegula would be taking calls from Eichel, it's more of a comment on Pegula than it is on Eichel.

I know a slew of people in the natural gas industry and many of them were wiped out when the prices crashed. Pegula's want to cut costs so their luxurious standard of living is not affected. Reminds one of Happy Harold in the day, he didn't give a rats ass about the fans, the Pegula's are following suite.

In situations where a team is owned by an individual as opposed to a business I'd guess it's fairly common for a star player to have some sort of relationship with the owner so unless you're saying that Eichel is wielding some undue influence on things I'm not sure that's a major concern.

I think the whole "wanting to run the team on a shoestring" thing is more of a red flag than Eichel occasionally talking to Pegula.

Sure, that, and they'd probably expect you to live in Buffalo for some part of the year.

Question:  Is Byfuglien available for immediate signing for this current season?

My reading of this is if he wasn't on your reserve list or under contract with your team at the trade deadline, then he is not eligible for your playoffs.

Though, they are somehow considered to be part of the 2019-2020 season in general, and new contracts that start before the 2020-2021 season are currently prohibited, so, even if you do want to get pedantic...
