Watching Game 6 1999 Toronto-Pittsburgh and seeing the Leafs having a goal taken away on video review because Kevyn Adams had half a skate in the crease.

Sportsnet is now replaying the Carolina game from this year. Don't worry, it's the awesome comeback game from before Christmas, not, uh, the other one.
LeafsTV showed vintage Leafs vs St. Louis game from Dec. 1967. The game was played sometime before the Mahovlich trade to Detroit later that season. I checked out leafs depth at the time on hockeydb. Leafs missed the playoffs that year, but they had a very good core of young players at the time that were eventually given away. JP Parise, Jim Pappin, Garry Unger, Pete Stemkowski, Gerry Meehan and Walt McKecknie were gone in bad trades before the following season ended. Ron Ellis and Mike Walton were the only young players from that group that Leafs kept into the 70's.
With vets Mahovlich, Keon and Horton (and Brewer) also on hand at the time, Leafs could have been a serious contender for years. Instead, they have been in a rebuilding mode since then.

Spezza has a couple of attainable milestones that he could still hit in his career.
Currently sitting at 599 assists so only 1 away from 600.
Currently has 940 points so 60 away from 1000. This one would take him two seasons, health and a consistent performance to reach but he was on 35 point pace this year getting 3rd/4th line minutes.

Lots of options on both wings. Imo, Marner, Nylander and Hyman will definitely be there next year. The other 5 wingers will be decided from a group that includes Johnsson, Kapanen, Mikheyev, Clifford, Spezza, Engvall, Malgin, Barabanov and Robertson. Long shots include Agostino, Korshkov and Petan.
One from that group could replace Gauthier at 4th line center. If not, I see Hyman, Johnsson, Engvall, and Robertson on the left side; and Marner, Nylander, Kapanen and Barabanov on the right side.
Imo, Agostino, korshkov and Petan are signed and will likely stay with the Marlies.
That leaves Malgin, Clifford, Spezza, and Mikheyev. Imo, Micheyev and one other will be resigned. Clifford is an UFA so hell likely have more offers than RFA Malgin, so I'm thinking Spezza or Malgin will be the other winger that will be resigned.
Personally, I don't think Malgin provides much more than Agostino or Petan. Spezza, on the other hand, has years of experience and can also play center.

I was away on vacation for the game but followed it through the Game Day thread. Definitely made a point of watching the recording when I got back. Was not disappointed!Bender said:
I mean, not really. The Leafs have never really been a big "dead cap" team, have they? LTIR guys like Horton and Clarkson aren't even classified as that and of course even they're expiring after this season.

The retained salary the Canucks had on Luongo was wiped out when he retired, but it was also of course replaced by the recapure penalty. We also saw with Phaneuf that retained salaries can be adjusted because the part that Ottawa retained was adjusted when LA bought him out.
Random fact: Kessel's retained salary is currently the oldest active one on the books right now. He was traded on July 1st, 2015. The next oldest one would be Jason Demer's, who was traded over 2 years after that on September 17th, 2017.
