2020-2021 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Yeah I definitely recall people talking about how his movements just seemed off in his last stretch of games.

Would definitely help explain some of his issues moving across the crease.

It was obvious when he originally came back from injury. I honestly believe if Jack had been healthy he would have taken more time to heal back then.
Going to see what the Leafs do going forward because if he's practising with the team, it says he's not far away. I think he probably gets some games with the Marlies.

So perhaps it isn't that he's just a complete trash fire?

Complete trash fire? No. But his struggles can be traced back to well before this injury. Hopefully he's healthy in case the Leafs need him but Campbell is still probably the starter heading into the playoffs.

It won't be an easy call either way IMO.  Campbell has been good for the most part, but OTOH he's never been an undisputed starter in the league.  Freddie has, but OTOH he has never delivered in the playoffs when it was all on the line.  I'm not 100% confident in either of them.

I think if we knew all of his ailments and injuries, it would make a pretty similar to drop in play. And Freddie actually was very good before his injury at the end of Feb and he came back on Mar 3 early because Jack was out again. That's when he struggled badly until the 19th when he decided to shut it down and Jack was back to playing again.
I agree with Bullfrog, if Freddie is healthy, he's probably starting.

I doubt it. If Andersen is healthy, I'd bet on him being in net.

Barring some sort of LTIR miracle Andersen will have gone about 8.5 weeks without playing a NHL game by the time the playoffs start.

IMO he delivered last year. 1.84GAA, .936SV%. If you can't win with that kind of goaltending, that's on the scorers.
Well one good thing this year, we will have more then 1 goalie to lean on and personally, I don't care which one it is and how good or bad the numbers are. I only want to see W's, the only thing that matters.

He can play games with the Marlies. And he was off for a long time due to the covid shutdown last year and was better then fine in the play ins.

Regardless of who starts game 1 (Campbell) we're probably going to use both goalies during our lengthy playoff run. Especially since the North playoffs might start a week later than the rest of the league so we might get stuck with some back-to-backs to catch up to them.

You mean when Andersen starts game 1, lol? Kidding but agree with you. I think we'll see both of them for sure.

Agreed, the starter (Andersen) might need some relief.

Do we think we can trace Andersen's struggles back to the concussion issues he had a couple years ago? It seems to me that's when his play became inconsistent.

As a side note, I think Andersen starts when he's back. Campbell has been good but I still don't think the Leafs are confident in him as a starter.

Ottawa beats Vancouver
Edmonton walks all over Winnipeg
Montreal beats Calgary

Leafs        48GP 65P
Oilers        46GP 58P  *Magic Number 14
Jets          48GP 57P *Magic Number 9
Canadiens  47GP 51P *Magic Number 5
Canucks    42GP 41P *Magic Number 5

Calgary/Ottawa already eliminated

I think most of his issues are probably directly related to injuries. They said his original injury this year was Feb15. He only took a few games off in late Feb but came back early again. Keep in mind that Jack only played 1 game(Feb 27) from Jan 24 to March 20.
Every year he has some sort of injury and from everything I've read he's always come back early because he has that mentality to not let the team down. I believe if Jack had stayed healthy, he would have taken the proper time to get healthy.
