For the playoffs, on the other hand . . . that's where Bennett actually shows why he was drafted so high.

So he can't do it until there are no penalties?

Either that or he can only do it when there's serious pressure. The everyday pressure of being a professional athlete isn't enough for him.

Sounds more like variance/luck than anything reliable

One day somebody will build the luckiest team ever. Just a team full of guys with 28% shooting, bounces going in off their asses, goalies on .978 benders, no injuries, and drafting Hall of Famers in the 7th round.

One player I would be interested in if the Leafs are serious about adding a top 6 forward is Rickard Rakell. His numbers have dropped over the last few years as Anaheim hollowed out but he's on a reasonable deal and he could get back to the player he was playing with a talented C again.

Or Danton Heinen?

Anyone we get is going to be a tricky protection issue for the Seattle draft unless they really suck or we really want to lose Holl.

Yeah. Rackell could be an interesting add for the 3rd line - or even as a winger in the top 6. He probably has the best trade value of any piece on their NHL roster, though. Everyone else is either bad or comes with serious cap complications.

Don't hate me but Eric Staal?

3rd round pick or less? Sure. He hasn't been great this season, but, he's also playing in Buffalo...

His cap hit isnt insignificant and yeah I wouldn't want to give up much for him but he's a guy with playoff experience and fills another "been there" veteran option.  His production is down this year but as you said, Buffalo.

There is no such thing as variance in hockey.

I want defensive D depth. Maybe a Jordie Benn... cheap, on an expiring deal, low cost.

A beard that is in the vicinity of Bogo's.

Reminder that 2 weeks ago Kypreos said the Leafs should trade Robertson and Kerfoot for Bennett.
Some of these trade proposals are ridiculous. Kerfoot is arguably better then Bennett at this stage of the game not that SB can't turn it around. I don't see Dubas trading anyone off the roster if he makes a deal at all. I don't think he's going to mess around too much but there's a long way to go still.
You'd have to think Liljegren would be the piece offered if it's not draft picks. He's doing great in the AHL this year but his path onto the Leafs seems kinda tough
I don't see the Leafs getting rid of him unless they see bust. They will need him next year because we may be down 2 RD going into next season. I also think if Covid wasn't around and we had a full schedule, Liljegren would probably be with the Leafs. I think draft picks will be the offers.

Maybe, but I very much doubt they're down two right dmen next year. There's no way they allow Holl to get selected by Seattle given his play and contact. And given how well things have been going with Bogosian I'm sure they'll either bring him back or find somebody similar if he prices himself out of their range. Liljegren is looking good, but he's not a Bogosian type.

But draft picks are the most likely to be used either way.

Yeah. Never understood why anyone thought Kyper would make a good insider.

I think he's good on camera in some ways but his takes are just brutal.

I know this term has been beaten to death now but I really do think the sample is too small to really draw anything from his playoff numbers.

I care less about straight production out of the 3rd line and more about turning it into a stifling shutdown line.

I think Eric Staal is an interesting option, actually. He'd probably come cheap and is a damn good player; would obviously be super pumped to play in Canada.

I'm really hesitant to spend big this year at the trade deadline. I know it's exciting we've got a legitimate chance, but our core is still here for a few more years; it's not like this is the last kick at the can before things blow up.
