Welp, I guess he loses the bid now.  ;D

Well, Herman, that is one of the stupidest statistical analyses I have read in a while ?take a bunch of random stats. Rank players.  Add their ranks. Notice Matthews leads by a slim margin. Very dumb.

I might be the farthest from a GMcK fan, and this is tantamount to a Steve Simmons endorsement to me, but this is probably well above average in terms of academic rigour from this bloc of voters.

I realize my comment might have sounded overly harsh.  Sorry about that.  But yeah ? this is no Jack Han post.

Just a rambling thought that really doesn?t mean anything, but I find it kinda funny that this is the beat leafs team I?ve ever seen, the most talented group of players, the most explosive offence - and they?re not going to be close to the team record 337 goals the leafs scored in 89-90.

Go take a look at that roster, other than Damphousse, it was career and fluke years all around. Leeman for example never scored 20 goals
Again after getting 51.

I'd forgotten that Leeman plummeted so far after that year. It's kind of crazy that, between Leeman and Clark, two of Toronto's notable goal-scorers of that era both played their entire junior careers as defensemen.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Harri Sateri let in 5 goals on 32 shots for a .844 SV% last night in his first start for the Yotes.

This is extremely cute

edit: oppo from a lefty bat in slowpitch is shooting yourself in the foot. Rip it at the worst players they are stuffing in 1B/RF, man.

Yeah it is quite amazing.  Eddie O wasn't bad on that team either, and I feel injuries derailed his career.

Look who finally showed up...I guess because the Leafs are so short in the goalie department they had no choice..

Bruins just lost their game in hand on the Leafs, to Boston. Leafs up 5 points to Boston with 10 games to go. Tampa 6 points behind with a game in hand.

If you?re looking for a good, positive omen, Sheldon Keefe?s little brother coached my team to another championship tonight

Pressure on the big brother to emulate now ;D

Hey hey! Congratulations!

Here?s something that popped into my head - you can go back in time and have Stamkos accept the leafs free agent offer, or do you prefer that he turned it down and the leafs ended up with Tavares?

No disrespect to Tavares but I think I lean toward Stamkos. He always had better offensive numbers and while Tavares had the edge defensively I think the Leafs never really leaned on him hard defensively (no PK minutes, often got good offensive zone starts).

Also not saying that Leafs would have been top Cup contenders with him but if Stamkos took that contract we would have had him for 2 extra early playoff runs, and a player like him could have made a difference in those close first round exits in 2017 and 2018. That also would have brought upon two interesting butterfly effect possibilities though: If the team had some early playoff success in the Matthews era 1) does the Kadri trade need to happen and 2) would Babcock have been fired? Also I mean this is 100% unfair to Tavares and I almost don't even like bringing it up but a potentially healthy Stamkos in last years playoff run vs. what happened with John could have made a world of difference.

So I mean it gets tricky with all the random "what if's" you could think of over the past 6 years but if we're going to say generally speaking most other team decisions were kept the same and it was just replacing Tavares with Stamkos then I'd probably make that swap. Especially if we're talking about them on comparable cap hits.

With that said I do want to stress that this isn't exactly anti-Tavares in any way, I'd only lean toward Stamkos on a pretty slim margin. And if you asked this question last summer I might have actually leaned Tavares because Stamkos was coming off a pretty worrying season at 5-on-5 at least but he's rebounded from that very well this year.

If money is equal, I'm taking JT. I think he's a better player overall and still put up very good numbers despite not having the support Stamkos had.
