Well, may as well start the build towards the new season with the big news...

Ohtani believed to have met with Jays officials at Dunedin.

Not sure it really means anything, but who knows...

Doesn?t mean a ton - he reportedly met with San Francisco a few days ago - but it is an additional confirmation the Jays are serious about their pursuit and he?s considering them as a real option.

I think it's a good sign to see them actually in for such a signing. Similar to be in the discussions for Soto.

Now, if they don't pull either of those off it might actually be a bit deflating... Even if you'd not have expected them to be in for them.

Tavares did not even meet with Montreal, even if they were pitching something tr?s juteux.

We're on the shortlist! cynically, maybe just as the crowbar to lever the number higher due to relative desperation. Or maybe he has genuine interest in Toronto, its new facilities, and its proximity to success.

The kind of thing that could be a commercial success for Rogers too, to add to the cynicism.

The new Rogers Japan phone network, for example.

I?m seeing a rumour/semi-rando insider saying Ohtani is staying in LA but with the Dodgers

The only reputable source I see is saying he met with LA. Doesn?t mean he won?t end up there, but nothing yet from anyone I?d consider reliable.

For what it?s worth I don?t think they get either.

Probably end up overpaying for Bellinger or something instead.

Okay funny:
If there is one thing to know about Shohei Ohtani's free agency, it's that you are unlikely to know much about it until he signs somewhere. If visits between Ohtani and a team are reported publicly, it will be held against the team, so the circles will be tiny and tight.

Ha.  I find that clip great.

Supposedly Ohtani wants nothing leaked.  And we see Roberts pause for a couple seconds where he was probably thinking he shouldn't say anything or anything stupid.  Yet his glee and excitement overcame him and just blurted out. LOL

It's fun being in the sweepstakes though right?

Just so I understand...he can't pitch next year, right?

Yeah no pitching next year, but his bat alone is worth a contract, then if he can pitch the following year...

A lot of the issues are around how his contract is structured allowing for how much and when he can pitch.

The Yankees have prospects because they haven't been using them the last few years.  It made sense.  As much as Soto would have been awesome to have in Toronto, he's a Boras client going to free agency.  Giving up guys like Tiedemann for a 1-year rental isn't something I'm interested in doing.

It looks as though that plane is a charter, owned by an aviation leasing company.  That plane has a history of flying to Toronto fairly frequently.
