How back are we?

The quick release and the deceptiveness look better there, for sure. Still doesn't look like he has the same zip to his shot, but he's likely holding back some, considering the circumstances. It's certainly encouraging.

RH shooting 5th rd pick from 2024 comes in to take the SPC slot vacated by RH shooting 2021 5th rd pick Ty Voit’s contract termination.

Really? He looked slower to me for a large part of the season, his release was off, and his shot didn't seem as hard or accurate. It got better as the season went on, but he never looked normal. He didn't dominate shifts the way we'd grown accustomed to. There weren't anywhere near as many "Matthews is going to score on this shift" moments.

His WHL team, the Oil Kings, just picked up a 3rd Czech import forward for this upcoming season. They might even form a pretty good 1st or 2nd line there. Feels like that's a good place to leave him for another season.

His WHL team, the Oil Kings, just picked up a 3rd Czech import forward for this upcoming season. They might even form a pretty good 1st or 2nd line there. Feels like that's a good place to leave him for another season.

Not overly dominant, but he did play against men in his draft year, albeit Czech league (with our old friend Dick Panik!), and had to work on acclimating to NA culture/language this year. I’m good with either option but wouldn’t mind seeing him stress tested against bigger and faster defenses.
