This puts the Jays at the max the Dodgers could offer Sasaki, in the low $8m range.

The Jays could get up to just over $10m with additional trades.

Either they feel they have a strong chance of landing Sasaki with a comparable offer or there's a few other international free agents they have deals with (or both).

Bo’s bat is not that great and his defensive play while very good is not exceptional
One bad year and suddenly his bat - by far his best asset - is not that great. In a typical season, dude is a hit machine. Last year was the first time he had an OPS+ below 121. Overall, before last season, he had a career OPS+ of 126!

He needs to work some on his patience at the plate (not a ton, as it's not exactly holding him back, but it could push him to the next level) , but his bat is extremely high end. If anything, it's his defensive play that isn't that great. It's actually slightly below average to average for his position.

Same with Vlad last winter, he was a bum. I hope they both get signed. I don't know what other options we have. The thing with Bo though is if he doesn't want to be here he won't be.

And he's a Dodger.

The Jays added international money to push them into the tax. So now a team with a massive hole at 3B, DH, LF, RF*, backup C, a hole in the starting rotation and a bullpen that is still highly questionable is paying extra tax and has absolutely nothing to show for it.

The expectation shouldn't be there for the team to win these battles with the Dodgers but when they invest time in it and use their media to push competitive bid narratives only to follow it up by doing nothing when they aren't successful. This is a team that doesn't have a future right now. Sign Vlad Jr or not, the only advantage of doing that is you keep a potential home grown star. The Jays are so far away from being a contender right now.
