2025 World Juniors

So I'm hearing a lot of names of former NHLers, are there some relatives or just coincidence?

There might be more but off the top of my head:
Oliver Bonk is the son of Radek
Gabe Perrault is the son of Yanic
Ethan Gauthier is the cousin of current NHLer Julien Gauthier

Cole Eiserman has no relation to Steve Yzerman.

Cowan was about to cry after he sunk his team with an incredibley stupid penalty
Yes bad penalty but so were most of the other 10. He didn't sink the team and I think it's totally unfair how he's getting blamed for all their troubles. The PK has been terrible and not laying blame on George but all 3 goals, high blocker if memory serves. Funny or strange stat, they haven't allowed a 5v5 goal yet.

I think 1996, when the US won the World Cup of hockey by beating Canada in the finals (which was a best of 3 series) we saw the first time the US showed it's hockey prowess. Before that, international wins by the US like the Miracle on Ice were not as convincing and more apt to describe as 'miracles' or puck luck.

2024 is when we have parity between US and Canada. At the juniors level, the US team has beaten Canada 6 out of the past 8 games. And the trend is clear..... US is taking over the mantel of hockey dominance from Canada.

This dominance is still not reflected at the NHL level yet, as I think its still pretty close and either team can win the 4 Nations Face Off (I would give the edge to US). Betting odds also indicate this.

But in the younger generation, the trend is already reflecting the US program has surpassed Canada.

Project that out another 20 years.

I really think that in one off tournaments like the WJC, the lack of play together is what hurts Canada. The USA Hockey program recognizes and brings their players together at a much younger age. They then continue to play together. For example, The U18 team is playing 25 USHL games together this year. The U17's are playing 35.

Canada has attempted to have a development program but they have never invested similar to that.. One year you're in, the next year you're out. New coach, new players. Team loses, the coach decides to change the focus of the roster. That's not development, that's reactionary coaching/managing.
