I always knew this but if anyone deserves 20% of the Cap it’s 97. I haven’t been able to closely watch the game as much as I normally do but I don’t see 16 doing much so I’ll leave it to you guys to expand upon but I don’t see a $13M player

This 100%.

You can break it down multiple ways and except for one or two ways.... Marner is not a $13m player.

I know you compared to this field of NHL's top players in 4 Nations....... but Even when compared to Matthews.....Matthews is a center and they get paid more than wingers (just like QBs get more than wide receivers). Matthews is elite top 3 and a different level than Marner. You can build a team based on Matthews (not Marner).

Matthews represents a bright line to be top paid on this team and an infringement of that will impact everyone.

Marner having one regular season where he is the team MVP is not enuff. (And i would say Willy and Woll/Stolarz are mvp candidates too).

And unless Marner leaves to Avs or Oilers or NJ..... I think he will be another Huberdeau. 115 reg season points and a President's Trophy.... but can't deliver playoff wins ....and points will plummet when at another team.





Now if the NHL changes Playoffs to go 3 on 3 for OT..... then I'm giving both Marner (and Robertson) big raises!!!
