A season to remember....

Aside from the thrilling way they clinched a berth (adios memories of that last playoff game against BOS) I think all of us sensed long ago that this team is special.  I think the overall performance of the rookies on this team is something you will not see matched anytime soon.  Add to that a breakout season from Kadri, really solid goaltending from Andersen (the regular-season MVP IMO), and some vastly improved play from the defense over the last month or so, and you have a season to remember no matter what happens to them in the playoffs.

In all honesty, I had more fun watching this team than I did even in the years that Sundin was carrying them.

Well put! They've been fun and played in a lot of exciting games. But, more than that, they're really, really good.

I was among the more optimistic heading into this season -- I thought Matthews and Nylander would be over 50pts but that the team would be close but out, as a result of defense and goaltending -- so it's great to see them a year ahead of my wildest dreams.

They may not be the Hawks, but they're definitely not the Islanders or RNH Oilers or Avs. Barring significant injuries, I'm sticking with the prediction of conference finals by the time the 2017-18 season is done.

Anyone who's ever seriously played a game of Eastside Hockey Manager knows it's way more fun to win with the prospects you draft and develop than it is with old guys you sign.

What's been so fun about the season is that literally from game one it's seemingly been a non-stop cavalcade of young Leafs draft picks doing great stuff. That they made the playoffs is great but that they did it primarily on the backs of guys who figure to be around for at least a decade or so is what really made it pop. This team doesn't make the playoffs without all of their top rookies being basically as good as rookies as anyone predicted. I didn't think they'd be that good that fast and I'm very happy to be wrong in this case.

I'm still torn about the season's results in terms of how this eventually leads them to being a team that's comfortably watching on the last weekend to see which #8 seed they'll destroy in the first round but those are concerns for another time. This has been a terrifically fun season to watch and there's really not much more you can ask for as a sports fan.

And heck, it's not even over.

Excellent observation #1:

Note on observation #2.  There is no end in sight of the kids knocking on the door, so its only going to get better. I am sooooo hyped.

Don't do it... Matthews is gonna grow a beard in the offseason, and Lou Will trade him away for his insolence.

That's awesome.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this season. Not since sun din left have I finally enjoyed watching them play each & every game.

Same here.  :)

Not since Sundin has there been such an entertaining year.  What makes it better is a team finally on the upswing brimming with plenty of optimism.  What we've seen this season with all of the great talent that's made up this team is a portent of greater future things to come.

Love it.  What's different about this Leafs team than any other that I can remember in my lifetime is the amount of great home-grown young talent on the roster.  In previous eras when the Leafs were good you had your key players acquired through free agency and/or trade, they were older and more experienced and not here for the long haul.  I'm thinking of examples like Gilmour, Andreychuk, Roberts, Mogilny, Cujo, Belfour go on down the list.  With the current core group of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Brown, Rielly, Kadri, all guys that the Leafs have drafted and developed.  Mix in a few other young guys we've acquired like Gardiner, Zaitsev, Carrick, Kapanen and you finally have the makings of a team that can move forward for years and be competitive.  The roster will continue to evolve and change as we go on and address team needs, but I finally see the makings of long-term succcess for the first time in my life.  I can't wait.

I believe this marks the first time the Leafs play the Capitals in the playoffs, ever.
