All-Star Weekend

Yeah I think the 10 pages this thread has accumulated might indicate more people watch / care about the ASG then they want you to believe.

I think the skills competition is kinda fun... Same with the draft. The game? - Meh. Personally, my All-Star experience ended after the skills competition was done... I didn't watch the game.

Yeah - so you got something out of ASW as a fan then. That's the point!

Fair enough.

Yeah, I have to admit I was a little more captivated by this year's game than I have been in years, probably because my Leafs were more showcased this time around. I enjoyed what I saw of the skills competition, and we did have the actual game on though we kept flipping back and forth between it and the OHL game we were watching. If there hadn't been Lupul, Kessel and Phaneuf playing though, I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Keep in mind where you are. We got 13 pages for a Tuesday game in January vs. the Wild and that wasn't full of posts where people were kicking back and forth how to make Tuesday games against the Wild more exciting.

I don't know. I mean, we're talking about an even that had 3 individual events that took place over the course of 4 days and was the only thing going on hockey-wise for an entire week.

Well, yeah. I mean, during the actual ASG there was...what...25 posts? I make more posts than that if someone says they like Community better than Parks and Rec.

You're right.

The all star game is boring and I should feel bad for enjoying it. I'm probably simple-minded though.

Sorry, I've just been frustrated by a coworker today who has to crap on everything anyone does.

Every year it seems this thread pops up and people make an effort to discuss how boring the event is. It just sucks the fun out of any discussion about the game and makes me feel like I'm an idiot for enjoying it.

Your points aren't wrong though that there's actually little discussion on the all star weekend compared to other games and topics.

Fair enough. Like I said, I didn't watch this year's game and I think the NHL is happy enough with the game and what it does. I think trying to "fix" it is more or less a lost cause. It just is what it is at this point and after that it's to each their own.

I was just responding to the idea that this thread was indicative of a deceptively high level of enthusiasm for the game.

I, too, was interested in the ASG for the fact that there were 3 Leafs participating, plus the general fact that it was held in Canada added to the excitement.  The Skils Competition is now more interesting because some of the  players come up with something goofy.

It's an overall fun weekend for the fans and players, nothing much else.

Which is definitely a fair point. I recognize that I'm in the very small minority of people who enjoy the game.

Instead of trying to be a real game though, they should break out more of the comedy routines that the guys do in the old-timers games.
