Ashton up, Holland down

Poor Holland.  Gets sent down after playing well, loses the NHL salary and gets to watch Orr/McLaren take up space while contributing FAR less than he did in his time.

Probably don't wanna give up that 2nd round pick as I imagine the Leafs will be drafting pretty high this year.

He's at 22 games right now. Can the Leafs really bank on no other centres getting injured? Holland's almost definitely going to hit 25 games. There's no reason to try and avoid it at this point.

Wow!!! Holland must be making the coaches moves look so bad, they sent him down to get him out of our face, as to not keep pointing out the coaches flaws.

They can call up someone else.

Well. Ashton makes more sense for the 4th line. Holland makes more sense for the 2nd or 3rd line. This has everything to do with him playing 25 games, and 2nd vs. 3rd round pick scenario.

Makes no sense at all considering McClement still getting almost 20 mins a night and lack of centres, but I'd much rather this than Holland sitting on the bench or in the pressbox.

I really hope HBO left a bug behind in the staff room, because I'm sure many of us would like to hear exactly what the hell is going on with this decision making.

Why? He's scoring at a lucrative pace in the AHL, why wouldn't you put him in a position to suceed in the NHL? Otherwise I'd rather keep him in the AHL and see if he can maintain that offensive output.

As someone on Twitter mentioned, Holland also doesn't really have anything left to prove in the AHL.  Same age as Kadri, same AHL scoring.

EDIT: speaking of potentially losing the 2nd rounder, the upcoming couple drafts aren't looking that great for picks: http://www.prosportstransactions.com/hockey/DraftTrades/Future/MapleLeafs.htm

I would argue that Ashton has the most punchable nose in hockey. Not good for someone trying to play the kind on game he's attempted.

He's not a guy that should be in the AHL at all anymore, but, better there than getting 6 minutes or less on the 4th line with the big club. Carlyle's not going to move McClement off the 3rd line until Bolland is healthy, so, why waste a 2nd round pick until you have to or you have a coach who's going to use the player in a way that makes that sacrifice worthwhile? In just over a week, Holland went from being the most productive player in the lineup over a 3 week stretch to being banished to the 4th line to being sent back to the AHL. I'm sure he'll take it all in stride, but, it really just highlights how poorly Carlyle manages his bench and how absurd his insistence of having guys like Orr and McClaren in the lineup.

Hopefully, Ashton gets used in an actual offensive role, but, I doubt it.
