Ashton up, Holland down

What does one do after they've already given up? Is there something past apathy?

This move sure feels like they've given, or are in the process of giving up, this year.

I was actually referring to myself... but yes, it can relate to the team as well.

Ha!  Sorry about that.

Certainly can understand those who feel let down...

It kind of does, but, it also kind of feels like a bit of a shot across Carlyle's bow from the front office. Sort of "if you're not going to use the guys how we've already spoken to you about, then you're not going to get to use them at all." This might be the first sign that management is coming around to the idea that Carlyle might be a big part of the problem.

I am not advocating this decision, the only silver lining is that Hollad will play 18+ minutes per game, quality PP time. Carlyle would limit him with Orr/MacLaren to 4 minutes. He has nothing to prove with Marlies but at least he will play.

This franchise is in disarray right now.  This is a horrible move.  Holland should be playing with Lupul and Kulemin, it seems rather obvious.

I hope Nonis is just sending a message to Carlye, otherwise he is just as big of a goat as Randy.  This team is all sorts of backwards.

I do not understand why Carlyle feels he can trust McClement so much but not Holland, or even Kadri for that matter.  Bozak-Kadri-Holland-McClement to me is a much better use of the team's C's.  Holland had 7 even-strength points in 10 games before he was demoted to the 4th line, on a team struggling for even-strength offense.

Carlyle is just hurting himself here.

I hope they don't waist him down there like the last big center, then trade him for crap.
My guess is Nonis sees Carlyle wont use him enough to justify the 2nd rounder.

Hmmm.  How can we tell?  The roster decisions on this team never make any sense to me... I mean, as far as I could ever tell, Liles played fine when he was up this year in the lineup and Fraser sucked.  Ashton played better than any other 4th liner at the beginning of the season as far as I could tell, but got sent down.

I do applaud the idea of saving the 2nd round pick.  2nd round picks are fairly valuable -- you've got perhaps a 1 in 5 chance to get a guy like Kulemin, the kind of low-cost, reliable 2nd-3rd liner that every team needs.  So far, a number of Nonis's transactions have thrown away little bits of value.  If you keep doing that, it eventually catches up to you.  There's no point trading a 2nd for a 3rd for the privilege of playing Holland 4 minutes a night between Orr and McLaren.

Please wake me up when there is something new to say.

And it was the last anyone heard from princedpw.

Ashton up? good

Holland down? not so good. Hopefully Holland is professional about it. If I was in his shoes and sat down for the chat, my response would basically be "are you f'ing kidding me?" And relationships would go down hill from there.  :-\

Holland has been pretty good but I don't have a problem sending him down to avoid losing a 2nd.  What I do object to is that they wasted the time he DID spend while up here.  They could have played him a lot more in the games he did suit up and use the 25 games more strategically.  But then, hey, we have our coach.

As for Ashton, he's never impressed me at all either, as someone else posted.  Hopefully this time he can build off his good recent streak with the Marlies.

I'm interested to see how they line up down the middle tomorrow night if there aren't any further roster moves.

What's interesting is that now there's only 3 centres on the team.

And he's arguably been the second best center since arriving.  With that, he's apparently not earning the 4 minutes a night he's getting.

10 pts and even in 26 games?  Back on the bus!

0 pts and -5 in 32 games?  Roll out the red carpet to the tarmac.

Orr's cap hit is higher too.

When are we going to stop playing a 3-line team in a 4-line league.

I was hesitant to use the T-word but that is where things like this are heading intentionally or not.

This. It makes the bad direction that the team is going seem even worse.

Holland being sent down to me isn't an indication that the Leafs are giving up on the season, but, for Carlyle to go from recently talking up Holland to this in such a short time means there's something here we don't know, on the face it's absurd, surely there's more to it.

I doubt it's meant as a message to Carlyle, more a message to the player(s) while protecting assets in the short term.

As someone on Twitter mentioned, Holland also doesn't really have anything left to prove in the AHL.  Same age as Kadri, same AHL scoring.

EDIT: speaking of potentially losing the 2nd rounder, the upcoming couple drafts aren't looking that great for picks: http://www.prosportstransactions.com/hockey/DraftTrades/Future/MapleLeafs.htm

So no "dishonour for Connor" idea?
