Auston Matthews Extension: 13.25M AAV x 4yrs

Wild to think he was being compared to Anze Kopitar and how insanely happy we would've been with that. We're spoiled with him.

And the thing is, he is very close to Anze but can score like no other. And we're spoiled. Enjoy these guys because it'll be over before you know it.

Matthews of course is a goal scoring machine, but I love watching all the little things he does. Just the clever/calm little puck moves especially in traffic. I often find myself thinking "no way he gets out of that or around that guy with the puck" and yet he does, over and over. It almost looks effortless much of the time. Just a remarkable talent.

Yep, that's why I am sacrificing all my free time to observation of the Buds.

If he plays with Domi (on a relatively cheap deal) all next season, he might hit 80.

I don't think people are ready for what Marner in a contract year next season is going to look like.

Is it going to look like what he does every time there is pressure on him to perform?

Meek Mitch says, "You hurt my feelings".

He'll get 5 points in one blowout playoff game we win and everyone will point to 7 points in 7 games and say he played great...

You know how there's poster status based on volume of posts (I think?)... What level is Matthews Status

I personally feel the counter argument to the cap percentage view is that with the Pittsburgh and Toronto top heavy models, you are hoping that the four highest paid players are driving a big part of your success, so the depth in and around them doesn't have to be at the same level as a team that has less high end skill, but more of it spread throughout the lineup.  Even still, I think the Leafs have done a good job at rounding out the roster given the cap constraints that they've had.

That's definitely the argument Dubas tried to make for 7 seasons, until he started to say otherwise and was let go.

He was only GM for 5 seasons.

True. It's the Shanaplan.
