Autopsy of the Blue Jackets

I'm wondering if LA/Columbus might consider some kind of deal that reunites Carter with Richards and Columbus gets one of LA's very good goaltenders in the deal. Not exactly sure what/who would have to go either way...

I doubt Carter's going anywhere any time soon unless Howson gets removed as GM. While this season is almost certainly lost, it's too early to consider scrapping it entirely. What they should be doing now is identifying areas of organizational weakness (with goaltending being the most obvious) and figuring out which of their non-core pieces they can and will move - unless they get blown away by an offer, there's still no reason to move Nash, Carter, Umberger or Wisniewski, but they should be seriously considering the possibility of moving anyone else who isn't on an entry-level deal.

They are really bad.

It is one of those things where your goaltending doesn't have to be great to compete, but it just can't be that bad or you have no chance.  The best a defense can do is push a guy wide and make him take a shot from the boards.  If your goalie can't stop those, you simply can't win.  It's Toskalitis.

They need a goalie, let's trade them one for Nash.  ;)

I guess I couldn't spell due to the shock at how horrible Columbus is....especially considering their payroll.

Only 3 regulation wins in their last 36 games - and only 5 overall. This stretch of terrible hockey by Columbus dates back all the way to last season's trade deadline. They were actually 8 games above .500 last season before they collapsed completely. As much as he hasn't had a completely healthy line-up this season, it's hard to say that Arniel doesn't deserve a good chunk of the blame for this team.

But as McGuire put it this morning on TSN radio, they are playing their butts off for Arneil but just don't have the right horses to put the wins together.

At some point its the players, and its the GM who put those players in place.  Mason is a disaster, their defense isn't much better and you have to wonder if the captain gets some blame at some point.
