Bernier traded to Anaheim

Bernier had a $2mil signing bonus that was paid out on July 1st. I wonder if it was the plan all along to trade him to the Ducks once that was paid.

My favorite part of this trade?

The annoyance of many hockey writers/analysts who had just started their summer break who will have to cover this.

:D

I hope the pick is something. I wouldn't have moved Bernier just for the sake of clearing cap space. Especially since his value is at it's lowest.

It?s also important that a guy who so deeply understands the black/white divide worldwide, can go back to LA and ease race relations. #MandelaWasAGreatHockeyPlayer

If they aren't going to give Sparkles a shot I'd like to see them sign Jonas Enroth.

Lance Hornby says Lou said a back-up will be acquired. No chance they put Bibeau or Sparks in that role.

I was disappointed in Bernier that he wasn't able to take the starters job and run with it over the past few years.

Well, I guess they're really all-in on Andersen. Still wouldn't shock me to see Bernier put up better numbers next year.

I can't imagine it's much, though. This was probably negotiated as part of the Andersen trade as a sort of contingency if the Leafs couldn't move Bernier for something of value - which would mean that part of the price the Leafs paid was to compensate the Ducks for taking on Bernier's cap hit.
