Blackhawks @ Leafs - Mar. 18th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

they played a great game and a exciting overtime, what do you want we got a point which is better than a train trip to Palokaville.

Tough break, but Chicago really controlled the pace in overtime for the most part. Not sure why Nylander didn't get a 2nd shift in OT with Matthews, Brown went out with him late.

I certainly agree with your assessment about Nylander.  I thought that he and Matthews were the best two Leafs tonight.

In fact, Hyman played at least 1 full shift in the overtime.  He has had about 2 goals over the past 40 games or so  (at least that is what I believe I heard from Mr. Patrick O'Sullivan on Leafs lunch who is terrific in objectively assessing the Leafs and Mr. Babcock and line combinations).  And Hyman did get an assist tonight in shuffling the puck up at the defensive blueline to Matthews but again, if I may refer to Mr. O'Sullivan, that has been about his 5th assist this year on a Matthews goal.  Why is Hyman on the scoring line?  And how is he helping Matthews' offensive potential?  Nevertheless, Chicago is a terrific team, and the Leafs deserve full marks for getting a point tonight.

While I agree with the premise of POS' diatribes for deploying Hyman lower in the lineup (as I've said similar things at the beginning of the year), he played a great game last night. With some slightly different bounces, we could've been talking about another Matthews hat trick, with Hyman being instrumental on two of them.

Though it is a standard play, Hyman was also very effective taking pucks off the boards to break cycles and chip out to the carriers on his line. He never tries to truck it in himself unless it's open ice and he never just pulls up at the side wall beyond the circles to sling a low percentage shot into the glass wide for a self-inflicted breakout going the other way (I'm looking at you, JvR). He pretty much always brings it deep for Matthews or Nylander to flush the puck out front for chances and chaos.

I'd love better finish on Matthews' LW, with an actual left shot to boot, but for now, there are other actual problems to address (1D).

There's a good way and a bad way to look at this one I suppose. You'll take the point but the same structural deficiencies are there that make the points largely meaningless.

Good to see Matthews get one though.

can't seem to crack that overtime/shootout problem but I still think there's something to be said about how often they make it that far.  While i don't like the loser point, as long as it exists i'm more than willing to exploit it.  Can't wait for the next 'most important game of the season'  ..it's a fun time of year to be a fan.

funny but I liked the uniforms as well

I normally don't like the colour green on a jersey (New Jersey/Minnesota), but the type of Shamrock green looked particularly nice on the Leafs last night.  The luck of the Irish?  Ah well, not quite, but great game and pleasant-looking St.Paddy's unis.  :)

Babcock could play Soshnikov or Leivo on  the line with AM and with the latter' immense  talent and poise and responsibility and hockey sense I don't think they would lose anything defensively.  This could be done forthwith.  I agree that the Leafs need a 1A defenceman but that might take 2 or 3 years to get....
