I almost left him out to spare you from that torture, but I ran out of recognizable defencemen.

Even when it's in the best interest for the Leafs to lose, I wouldn't be able to stand watching him.

So let's say you're the Leafs GM and Bettman comes to you and says you get Matthews in the draft, but you have to play The Woz on the blue line for Matthews' entire career...do you do it?

No you go to the papers and explain why Bettman is stupid.  Then, while people chew on that, Lou makes one of Bettman's close personal friends disappear.

I would.

LA and Chicago have shown that if the rest of your team is built well, you can have some real scraps on your bottom pairing.

Their first and a bad contract for the Pittsburgh 1st and an average prospect?

That bad contract would almost certainly be Clarkson, so, you know, no. All of their really painful contracts have too many seasons left on them to make that kind of deal.

There's scraps and then there's guys like Woz. The guys Chicago and LA had on their bottom pairings were at least NHL quality players - especially on their playoff rosters.

The Woz would also be playing well into his 50s. Although that could benefit the Leafs since he'd be more likely to get injured and Bettman couldn't force the Leafs to play him in that case.

Is there a team in a worse cap position than Columbus?

I was looking at team salaries on capfriendly.com.  I snickered when I saw that Dave Bolland was Florida's highest paid player, had 4 years on his contract and was not even on the team.

Than I saw Columbus' salaries.  Ouch!
Saad: $6 MIL a year contract 48 pts  6 yrs
Dubinsky  $5.85  45 pts  6 yrs
Foligno  $5.5  36 pts  6 yrs
Clarkson $5.25  4 pts  5 yrs
Hartnell  $4.75  45 pts  4 yrs

That does not include Tyutin and Jackson. Woof!

The Oilers are playing Vancouver tonight. It's their last ever game at Rexall Place. You'd think they might want to try for this one.

I can't imagine how painful their next practice will be if they don't, based on McLellan's remarks.

The radio said somewhere between 150-200 former Oiler players will be at the game. I say dress 18 of 'em
and away we go with a guaranteed win!

But please Leafs - for the love of all of hockey - lose tonight.

This feels hopeless, as I'm fairly certain Columbus won't score another goal this season. How could they?

パワークリーン!

Matsumura, Tamaribuchi joint!
