Blue Jackets vs. Maple Leafs - Oct. 22nd, 7:30pm - TSN4, Fan 590

When you are still impeding a guy at the hash marks on a dump and chase you would think that would be interference

Tavares is +1 as well.
Timmins actually finished the game ~90% xG and was +2 in a 6-2 loss. He's the reverse Brett Lebda!!

The other stat line that surprised me is: Robertson was on the ice for 1 GF (his own) and 0 GA (perfect on the night).

Somehow Knies was on the ice for 4 goals against. It was a tupsy turvy game.

Everyone has been terrible but man when your goalie can't make routine saves the score gets out of control quickly

Can't even bemoan lack of powerplays because the Leafs have done nothing to generate anything.

It did seem like Hildeby was being beaten by NHL quality shots, like he couldn't handle them.

Pathetic effort. The back to back doesn't hold water when you see Tampa beating NJ tonight on the exact same situation

I don't think it was the back-to-back. I think it was the Leafs taking the Blue Jackets lightly as an inferior opponent and Columbus getting up to play the Maple Leafs.

While this team needs to figure out a way to be better prepared for the back 2 back games, it's kind of ridiculous that games on consecutive nights in different cities is even a thing.

I think this team has been pushed hard since the start of training camp. I don't think the majority of the team has been pushed this hard.

They played a very good game the night before.

Fatigue may factor into games like this.

Getting revved up for a b2b in Columbus on a Tuesday night proved to be a challenge.

It may have been a choice to play some of the guys that didn't play the night before. I don't think it may have made a difference in the outcome though Pacioretty did leave the game with an injury.

Willy, for example, looked completely gassed out there. I don't think it was simply a lack of effort.

Does coaching need to make a conscious effort to limit the minutes of some players in game 1 before a back-to-back?

I'm trying to find corroborating firsthand information that the Leafs arrived in Columbus just a couple of hours before puck drop. They looked out of sorts, starting with Line 1. The team isn't using it as an excuse, but it's not a non-factor. I think I would've liked them to cycle in more fresh legs for these situations (AHL style). Tired (mentally and physically) great players << fresh okay players.

Good on Hildeby for showing up for the media, at least. Hard for him to build up a rhythm with such a long layoff between games.

I don't agree he looked gassed. Willy only played 16 mins against Tampa and only 11 mins at even strength. Domi only played 10:35. Their line had 1 shot last night. Matthews and Marner both over 20 and they didn't look tired. Their line had 12. JT played more then Willy and I don't think he looked tired last night either.
Sometimes teams, players just have bad games where they can't find their legs and it seems every mistake ends up in the back of the net. Bad goals against also have a tendency to kill team energy.

Was quite the swing of emotions watching one game to the next for me and my dad. Normally he texts me a lot during the games but last night we didn't say much

I wish the Leafs had the mentality and history to just sweep this one under the rug but it's such a familiar feeling that this team can do this at any time and it's impossible to ignore. It's such a rollercoaster with this core. I wonder if this is part of their DNA. It's hard to rewrite the script when the core has been the same this long. Everyone is allowed to have stinkers but I find my eyes rolling right out of my head everytime this team does it.

The greatest team of all time, Boston, just lost to the 0-5 predators 4-0.

The 2025 Stanley cup champions, Edmonton, are 2-4-1.

Stinkers happen. I don’t take this game as an indicator of anything.
