Blue Jays 2016 Payroll

Until I hear that from Jose I'll take it with a grain of salt but, yeah, that seems prohibitive.

Bautista's 36 this October?! As a casual fan I just assumed he was like 29-31.

He didn't even get to the Jays until he was 27.

Yeah, that's why I was confused then. I knew he had been with the team for about that long, just never heard much about his age. So I assumed he joined the team when he was younger than that.

I am just making the point that the Blue Jays have not victimized Bautista by him agreeing to his previous contract. I do agree, a pay day is long over due for Bautista and relative to his peers he has earned one.

Right, and I'm saying that his answer is just in the context of someone who's been underpaid by probably 30-40% over the last five years being asked if he voluntarily wants to be underpaid again. He wasn't claiming victimhood.
He has not been underpaid.

Relative to his production? I'd say he has.

Also, if Bautista's denial is true I hope these "sources" aren't with the club because that'd be a pretty lousy thing to do.

From this article: http://deadspin.com/jose-bautista-knows-exactly-how-much-hes-worth-1760710572

"...over the past five seasons Bautista has accumulated 26.9 WAR, which made him ?worth? somewhere around $161 million. He was paid $65 million."

So yeah, a tad underpaid.

I love that one-word denial.  It doesn't necessarily mean he asked for less than $150M.  ;D

Let's hope so.

A legitimate ask for Jose Bautista?

How about 4 years/100 million?

Someone sent this to me

"Hearing Shapiro floated different numbers to various Rogers execs to find out where his leaks are"

I am trying to get a source.

I heard company executives love when employees use these type of tactics. I think I read it in Bloomberg Businessweek.

Just random Twitter posts.  The quote may not have any truth to it at all.

Oh I know, but it'd be so fun if it were true.

If I had any sway with the Blue Jays which I don't,I would get rid of this attitude of a player,he's bigger than the team....It,s getting tired of the way he conducts himself with a chip on his shoulder.

I vehemently disagree.  There is no Blue Jays player on that team that wears his emotions on his sleeve the way Jose does.  And that also transcends off the field as well, so to speak.

Cocky, brash, proud, embracing, emotional, outspoken, bold.  That's Jose Bautista for you in a Jays uniform.

I'd rather have a Bautista with all of his fiery-ness than one who just minds his own business.

A reporter at the Star specifically said that team sources told him the offer was more than $150mil. So yeah, this could get ugly.
