Blues @ Maple Leafs - Oct. 24th, 7:00pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

Felt like a playoff game for the Leafs (derogatory) these past two

In times of stress, people tend to revert to a default state, and it looks like many of the Leafs are still programmed to play Keefe-puck* and overcomplicate their possessions, making it harder on themselves to create as a group instead of making it harder for the defense to make decisions. The Leafs beat themselves.

* it’s only been 8 games. Probably takes half a season of reps. Doesn’t help that the lines are largely the same, so there isn’t much jarring them loose of those habits.

As several have said, it's going to take 20 games or so to get the new system in their veins. They need their stars to be much better to help keep things reasonably on track during this training-wheels period.

And we'll see what kind of goaltending we've really got.

Anemic is the best term to describe that game last night(and on Tuesday).

They came out on fire, and the first goal against(no fault of anyone really) sucked the life out of the team. I don't necessarily think a panic button is anywhere close to being needed, but they have some major items to clean up. The first step should be to simplify their game.
Its the same shit every year. They struggle early on and then when Nov hits they start getting it together but before that everyone has to lose their minds and over analyze every little thing this team does or doesn't do.

Outside of the powerplay issues, it's really been 2 bad games and one so-so performance in the last week. That's really it - a bad week. As long as they can nip it in the bid, it's ultimately nothing to be all that concerned about. Early season inconsistency always gets overblown.

That doesn't mean there aren't potential issues, but a lot of perspective is warranted here.
