Bruins @ Leafs - Nov. 12th, 8:00pm - SNO, Fan 590

The Leafs play 3 games in four nights.  If Carlyle had used Kessel and Kadri on the PP, fans would be complaining he should of 'saved' them for the next two games so they don't get too tired.  Can't win.

God imagine Chara didn't exist?

Leafs are in the middle of a back-to-back title defense?

Pretty sure we'd have figured out this whole world hunger thing too.

Imagine there's no Chara
It's easy if you try
No Stanley Cup in Boston
Brad Marchand would always cry

Clarkson is so awful.  Free Kadri.  Put Holland on his wing.

Why change a winning line up.

Panik, Smith and Leivo all over 10 min toi. Nice nod to the team with the PP minute distribution at the end.
Bye-bye Mr. Frattin and Mr Ashton. You are no longer required.

Where did Komorov's hands come from? Geez, I think maybe he's underpaid.
No he is not. Yes he has been a great surprise. He gets paid enough.

Marchant is the most annoying player ever.... Well Burrows is just as bad.

That was the first Leafs Bruins game which I didnt want to throw something at the TV.

I was finally able to see a Leafs game on SN - up to now the games were blacked out in the Ottawa area on the Quebec side.  I would call that my early Christmas gift.

We made Boston look like the Buffalo Sabres from 2 weeks ago by taking the play to them early and often. It helped that they were depleted with injuries and didn't seem interested in playing, but credit goes to the Leafs for forcing turnovers in the NZ (waves of back pressure) and capitalizing on an off-night for Rask. Kudos to Carlyle for distributing the minutes effectively and getting the team actually ready to play.

We probably would've had 10+ goals if Clarkson wasn't dragging down Kadri's line all night. They were buzzing the net, but every time the puck got to Clarkson, it was going back the other way. He can't seem to handle any passes, so he is most effective when he's the first man in on the forecheck, stirring up trouble for the D. He just doesn't fit with Kadri and Winnik (who plays a similar role, but way better). I like Clarkson with Bozak/JvR because that frees up JvR to be a triggerman.

Kadri had great zone entries all night but often went unsupported because of the stone hands flanking him. With Kessel on his wing, that'd open up space for him to set up shop more frequently. We shouldn't waste Kessel minutes pitting him against the top lines and getting hemmed in the DZ.

The bottom 6 played great and it was good to see them rewarded with some solid play time. Santorelli and Komarov really needed a Holland who has scoring touch, as opposed to the endless cycle they used to have with Winnik/Clarkson, just as much as Holland needed wingers who could actually hold onto the puck. Smith, Leivo, and Panik looked really good all night, driving hard to the net. They'd be a Marlie line 1 if the Leafs were completely healthy. Then again, I'd be perfectly happy if these three were the 4th line going forward.

Defense was not the greatest, but beyond Bergeron's line, there wasn't really anything to do as the Leafs kept play in the OZ. Franson had some oopsie-daisies in his own zone, but also had some highlights holding the line at the other end. Polak seems to be the defenseman that we've been trying to buy these past five years with Schenn, Komisarek, etc. -- extra coarse grit sandpaper. The difference is that he doesn't try to do too much. Rielly and Gardiner seemed to have good nights, wheeling and dealing. Robidas hasn't quite stabilized yet, but there are some flashes to his game that suggest that if he were to ever reach 100% health, he'd be a calming influence on the backend.

Bernier played well on what was a relatively quiet night for him, nailing down the win with calm, controlled poise in a game that he could've easily lost focus in.

Chemistry actually seems to be taking effect!  I have to credit Spott with Holland and Leivo's improved play, having him on the bench seems to be facilitating the transistion between the Marlies and the Leafs.  And Horacheck always is behind the guys with his clipboard and they really seem to be listening to him..the real acid test is Friday night.  If they can hold their own with the Penguins then we may just be for real.

I dont care who played or didn't for Boston. We beat them soundly for once and I love it... Most enjoyable regualr season win for me in years... Way to go Blue and White

It was a good game, you cant blame the win on injuries. We have a fair share of our own also.

Just imagine how many more goals Kessel would have scored last night if Orr had been on the bench, disuading the Bruins from intimidating Kessel in to only a 2-goal night.

That was my thought from last night too. These new coaches seem to be helping....

Good analysis.  Especially agree with this.

i know it's only one game...and an early regular season one at that..but i did enjoy perusing the boston message boards and watching as they overlooked the game against the leafs ..deciding who should be in net for montreal..to the horror of them being ripped to shreds in the second period...

it would be nice if the leafs used this as a game to grow on ...instead of it being an outlier

So much for that.
