Game Notes
BOS
-Jeremy Swayman (13-12-3, 2.87 GAA, .893 Sv%) will likely start for the Bruins
-The Leafs haven't seen Boston since the beginning of November. Since then the team has gone 14-9-3. Pastrnak has just 7 goals (but 27 points) in 26 games since then while Swayman continues to struggle in a full-time starting goalie. They remain somewhat comfortably in a playoff position but are just in a wild card spot by points percentage
TOR
-Joseph Woll (12-6-0, 2.39 GAA, .917 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
-Toronto didn't practice on Friday so no updates on their injured/unavailable players since Thursday's game

Kind of like the Leafs, even when not playing particularly well they are too good to drop out of playoff contention.

Here's a novel idea, you don't have to throw Matthews out there for his regular 20 minutes a night. Maybe bump that down to 15-16 minutes.

The Leafs need to win games like this if they want home ice.
Unless they're up big, not going to happen.

His injury doesn't seem to be one that is about conditioning either so I'm not sure what the point is. I guess if the Leafs are up big and Boston started getting dirty you might want to avoid shenanigans but he's either good enough to play or he isn't. Tweaking a back could happen 10 seconds into the game and limiting his minutes doesn't mitigate the risk

He hadn't played in two weeks. Limiting his minutes first game back absolutely makes sense. It would after any similar absence.

Not sure I agree with this. He hasn't played for a couple of weeks now so no matter what he is doing to keep his conditioning up, he won't be in full game shape. And as the game goes on and he takes hits and gets a bit fatigued, the chances for "tweaking" something almost certainly go up. Whether it be just from the fatigue or from him not being able to protect himself as quickly/well from hits.

I would think the chances for tweaking this kind of injury would be greatest early in the game (not fully warmed up) and late in the game. So limiting the minutes a bit would seem prudent to me.

Hopefully he looks great and gets through the game with no issues and the Leafs bury the Bruins.

Anyone taking bets on how early in the game he gets cross checked to the back?

I’m going for before the 6th minute of the first.
