Burke Fired

Michael said:
@SportsnetSpec: Sounds like Burke did NOT want to make Luongo deal, while many in Leafs org did. Burke a principled man.

i really ..really hope that's not the case..i didn't agree with every move burke made.but not bringing in luongo is something i'm 100% behind

Um wtf?

Maybe he's refusing to consider Luongo and he's been told we'll find someone who will?

I have really strong doubts this would have happened over any particular move, and, if it did, then the team has much bigger problems than we thought. If ownership is trying to dictate player moves on that specific a level, this team is boned.

Kypryos (sp?) on SN said something like this but tried to be vague.

If confirmed it was over disagreement on one player (Luongo), I guess, the younger ones will have a chance to experience what it was to run hockey business in Toronto under Harold Ballard. This is so Balardesque...

Gillis in Vancouver might be pretty happy right now if this is true. What leverage.

I concur completely.

Regardless of what the reason may be for the move, the timing is bizarre by any criterion.

Truly on a Ballardian scale.

Welcome to the Rogers Bell world.

Timing of Burke dismissal very odd. He and all brass were at Marlies game last night in Hamilton. Truth will surface. Something fishy.

I hope this is due to something personal that happened with Burke in the past few months - as has been speculated. Because if this is about ownership wanting a player that the GM doesn't think is right for the team then somewhere the ghost of Harold Ballard is laughing out loud.

I tend to lean towards this speculation than the Luongo route.

Those rumours were floating around a few months ago.  If true, we could be talking personal conduct issues.

I'm with PG, this isn't hockey related.

I think we can say bye to Carlyle too.  Hello Coach Eakins!
