I have 53 vs. 58. I'm using hockey reference. You?

Wikipedia. They have the same results, so one of us is adding it up wrong - and, after plugging the numbers into Excel, it's you. :P

Or you plugged the numbers into excel wrong.

I'm curious as to the goal differential last year vs. this year.

Last year, at this point, they were -9 (maybe -10 - I might have counted wrong). This year, they're +10.

I have -9 last season.

51 for and 60 against.

I heard from a friend who heard from a reliable source that Burke was fired for his personal conduct.  I won't elaborate as it's been speculated on here what it is and the mods just delete it.  I'm just putting this out there so people know.  It wasn't primarily due to the team's performance on the ice.

Perhaps I'm too old..but what is ROW?

ROW is a column in the standings that mean regulation and overtime wins, basically your win total without shoot out wins.

It is used for tie breaking.

Busta was probably using it to indicate GA/GF without including the "goal" awarded for winning a shootout.

-5, 55 for and 60 against.

So you had both the GF and GA wrong, just by the same amount so the differential was the same.

It's not -9, though, is it?

No, its also not 53GF and 58GA, you had the differential right by accident.

Also, where the heck the does 55GF even come from?

I've used wikipedia for my first tally, and now used NHL.com's game logs and the both come out to 51GF or and 60GA not including shoot out goals.

And If you count shootout "goals", then its 53F and 61A. I think there is something wrong with standings page you posted.

Same here. The numbers the league has there just don't add up with any of the other information available.

So to answer your question, HS, the goal differential last year was -5 if you want to listen to the NHL or around twice that according to their two abacuses.

I'm going to wait for a couple more months of success before I stop worrying that this team is about to drop off a cliff.

Yeah i've checked all the scores and haven't counted shootout goals cause they're bogus and the Leafs had 51 goals scored and 60 against in 18 games.  I have no idea why NHL.com is showing 55 for.

Because if you win in a shootout the NHL gives you a goal for that.

You can't count shootout goals in their goal differential.  If you look at the actual scores of the games played, Leafs were a -9 after 18 games.  This year they haven't gone to OT yet so the +10 after 18 games looks even more impressive.  A 19 goal differential.

But, the Leafs only won 2 games via shootout in that stretch, not 4. The math still doesn't add up to the numbers on NHL.com.

Yeah but the Leafs only had 2 shootout wins in the first 18 games so it should be 53 goals if they count those 2.
