Canada Announces Players Invited to Camp for World Juniours

I'm sure that no matter they were down 6-1, many thought they weren't going to roll over and go out with a whimper against the Russians.

Great comeback that came up too short.

There is something about Russia that brings out the worst to Canada and there is something about Canada that brings out the worst to Russia.  Here at the WJHC, I mean.

Looks like we have yet to figure out how to beat the junior Russians at their game.  Last year, we took the lead, they came storming back.  This year, they took the lead, we came (almost) storming back.  (*sigh*)

nice one Granlund...I think that we deserved the win though...however some of the finnish players are quite impressive...

If Granlund hadn't bobbled the puck in the shootout....

If the Finn 'keeper hadn't made a poor clearing attempt that led to a Swedish goal....

If the Swedes had had a penalty or two in the third....

Lots of what ifs.

Congrats to Sweden.  Good luck against Russia.

What's with Eric Francis' whiny crusade against Kuznetsov?  I find it funny that a guy takes swipes at a bunch of Russians in a rather immature manner in an article where he calls out a 19 year old kid for being immature.

I assume it has something to do with Eric Francis being a complete idiot.

I hope that Canada will run Finland over. I'm still pissed at the finns, I've never seen anyone being so happy after their win in the World Championships, and they taunted us a lot about it. So I'm gonna take every chance I can get to get back at them. I was arguing with finns at another message board, and they wanted us to play in real life. So I decided to taunt them a little by saying "sure, but it's probably best if we bring the puck".  ;D

The Euros juniors seemed to have finally grasped the North American (make that Canadian-style) trash talk, taunting, and play (lots of hitting and attitude to go with it).  The Swedes, Finns, Russians and even the Czechs, but more so the first three, exhibit a 'fearlessness' of playing in-your-face hockey, somethng that was absent from at least Finland and Sweden junior teams of the past.

To say that they all played that way while on Canadian turf tells a lot about these players' (and teams') confidence.  Considerig that over the years more and more of these Euro juniors have played in the OHL also adds to the evenly-balanced competition between Canada and the top countries.  The sprouting of the Euro leagues, the KHL, plus Canadian training by way of coaches going overseas and retired NHLers serving in some capacity, also adds to the equation.

woo! the Barrie Colts connection is responsible for both the Canada goals so far! Tanner Pearson scored the first one, and he stole the puck and fed Mark Scheifele for the second one.

Neither team deserves to win this game. You dominate like that through 2 periods and don't score? You allow the other team to dominate you like that? Disqualify both teams and give Canada the gold! ;D

I'm no expert on the world juniors but I can't help but feel as though there's something off when so many top notch players coming from Canada never play in this tournament for Canada. Maybe it's just me but it seems as though Team Canada tends to favour guys after their draft year a little too much at the expense of super talented players in their draft year.

Canada does seem to prefer the more physically mature players, it seems. After 3 years without a gold, that may change for next year.
