I'm making a vow right here, right now. I will literally never say a bad thing about Dave Nonis ever again.

Don't forget who got us in this mess to begin with.

Dave Nonis smells like roses and feeds starving children ever day.

Actually Nonis just did what Burke could never do. Admit he made a mistake and fix it, good on Nonis.

I'm buying a Nathan Horton jersey.

Anyone want a jersey on the cheap?

I hated the Clarkson signing so count me among those who are thrilled by this news!!!
Hell if Clarkson can be dealt that means ANYONE on this team can be dealt, which is awesome!

Really looking forward to blowing this team up and doing a proper rebuild. The Leafs have been doing these half-a$$ed rebuilds for 20 years now with nothing to show for. Burke started okay but then got impatient and started dealing top picks for Kessel.
We need to completely bottom out for a few years and stockpile draft picks and young prospects...short term pain for long term gain!

Wow. My brother just texted me "what do you think about the trade?" and I thought he meant Winnik.  I'm floored. This is amazing.

I actually got off Twitter and I think it broke about 3 minutes after. Never logging off again.

I can't even believe it. As Marek says, they bought Clarkson out without having to actually buy him out.

Does anyone know if Horton has any inclination towards ever playing again? Or is he really done?

An article I read a couple of months ago was pretty grim. Extremely unlikely he ever plays again.

Yeah, I guess what I'm wondering is whether or not there's a possibility, no matter how slight, that he just retires. I wouldn't begrudge him hanging on to cash his checks but I have to think there's some sort of actual rehabbing he'd have to do to keep earning his salary that might not be worth it after a while.

If he does retire, how does the cap work in that situation?  Is there a recapture penalty where Columbus pays the majority of his salary?  Was his deal signed at a time where that isn't a consideration?  Is there a certain amount of time a player can remain on LTIR?

Nothing short of a freaking miracle.

They said it was the contract that couldn't traded.

This deal joins the Alex Rios and Vernon pantheon of impossible trades.

I could not give a rat's ass what is coming this way.

Horton hears a who?

Clarkson that's who.

Over the moon, the rebuild is for real.

Don't think it's a 35+ contract so if he retires I think the Leafs are just off the hook.

That makes sense.  I couldn't see Columbus making that deal if they end up on the hook for most of his cap and salary $$.

This just keeps getting better.  :D  Makes me wonder if Nonis could have gotten rid of Bolland too if he had signed.

I wonder how it feels as a player when your team is literally willing to pay almost $30 million just to get rid of you. To set $30 million on fire just to have the privilege of not having to watch you play.
