Cody Franson

Or he goes in the tank like the other 90% of the roster, and he's not really movable.

Possibly. But unlike the other guys on the team he had a pretty clear incentive to keep going at it and I think that even if he did struggle it probably doesn't stick as badly to him as, say, getting traded to a good situation and being useless there.

Kadri also had a ton of incentive to kill it this past spring, and he certainly didn't respond as I would have expected.

True, but he wasn't particularly good before that either.

Back in January Friedman reported that Franson turned down a multi-year deal (3 or 4 years I think) at $4.6mil.

Yeah, that's it...thanks.  At the time I thought it was a reasonable amount for what he provides and his status, although $12 million tied up to Phaneuf and Franson is not the greatest bang for your buck.

The media was suggesting he'd get upwards of $6-6.5 million in the weak free agent market.  Looks like he will lose hard on that gamble.

Really, really, really must not want to play in Buffalo. I mean, who else would be offering him a multi-year deal at this point in the offseason?

That or he can't play on the same team with a former Hab.

Maybe, but what if they're offering 4.6 per?

2-years, $3.3mil cap hit. I don't think I've ever felt bad for a player signing a contract before.

I don't think I've seen a player sign so many perceivably below market deals so many years in a row. I don't know why he wouldn't go for another 1-year deal. He should have a chance to put up some good numbers with a horrible +/- in Buffalo.

Except I think the lack of interest in Franson this year did sort of make a clear point. Why would a team invest much in the way of term or money in someone who seems somewhat limited to putting up good numbers on a bad team? He established that pretty solidly in Toronto. Would doing that again in Buffalo really change the perception of him?

I'm thinking he got a pretty good deal...not as much as he could of got earlier (although that's a maybe). If he invests his money wisely,he could be set finacially for a long time.
The reason I'm saying that is because sometimes big contracts that players can get, they may not realize that it's a once in a life time deal...as a result spend more loosely and invest poorly...Fransen on the other hand may take this contract and covet it's value for what it is..and be better off in the long run.
