Coyotes @ Leafs - Jan. 29th, 7:30pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

I have to say, I really like the lineup without Phaneuf.

I don't think they suffered a bit without him last night.

I'd trade a bunch of these guys and run the rest of the year with a skeleton crew.

Use the remainder of the year as a diving board for some of the Marlies....

I really hope that is the Shanaplan!

I don't think one game against one of the worst offences in the league is much of an example of anything. Tonight likely won't be much different, as Arizona has a comparable offence to the Devils. Let's see how they hold up against teams that at least have average offensive capabilities before we make any sort of judgements.

Short of them going on an absolute tear and and turning the tables on the season, there isn't much to convince me they shouldnt tear it apart.

Prior to the last couple of weeks, I never miss games.  I always record them, I always watch them, even if I'm compelled to fast-forward through stretches.  It's been that way for me for decades, either watching live, VCRing or PVRing it.

However, I neither watched nor bothered to record the last couple of games, and I really have no desire to watch or record tonight's game.  I'm honestly not even sure if I'm going to watch any more games this year.  The trade deadline and the draft can't come soon enough.

It actually only five games. That is it.

It's 9 point with every team ahead of the Leafs having games in hand. Right now, Boston is on pace to get 97 points. For the Leafs to match that, they need to earn 49 of the 66 remaining. That's a .742 winning percentage. That's not going to happen. It may only look like 5 games, but, there's only 33 left in the season. That's a lot to make up in that span, especially when the rest of the teams they're fighting with have more opportunities to earn points because they have more games left. It's over, dude. It's over.

It over! Got it and McDavid is the saviour. I find very hard to put my trust behind an kid who has never played a professional game. It is not as if Hall has done much for EDM.

I'm surprised it took you this long to get that that point.

Well, where you put your trust doesn't really matter, does it? The Leafs aren't going to make the playoffs, and, with that being the case, what's best for the team is for them to get as high a draft pick as possible so that they can draft the best possible talent. All of the players in the league you do trust were once guys that had never played a professional game. No one (other than you, really) is calling McDavid a saviour. What he is is an elite talent, and, should the Leafs be lucky enough to get the 1st overall pick, he could very well end up as the face of the franchise for the next 20 years (and, potentially be the best player the team has ever drafted).

And, for what it's worth, Hall has done plenty for Edmonton. It's just that one player can only do so much, and the Oilers drafter record outside the top 10 has been abysmal. It's also a really unfair statement to make. No one who understands the game has ever said one player will turn this team around. No one who understands the game has ever said that about any team. That's not how things work. But, you also don't improve your team without bringing in top flight talent - and, in the cap world, affordable top flight talent like recently drafted players.

I know where you're at...I've missed a few lately too.

I watched the late second and third last night, and I fell asleep and missed the SO.

I can tell you that it is refreshing to see them playing a more 2 way game, but that's about the only positive I can take away from the few games I've watched lately.

Same point for me. Usually, I can't watch the first period (putting son to bed, etc.) but PVR it and get caught up by mid-2nd period. Lately, I don't bother and just watch the last half.

I had no illusions Horachek was going to save the team, but this last stretch sort of kicked any real desire to watch right out of me.

I'm always surprised to hear that people record regular season games and watch them later. There's 82 of them a year guys you can miss a few and still be in the loop.

Yeah, I'm more or less in that boat. If the team has a fire sale at the deadline and the post-trade team is Marlies-heavy...I'd watch that I think. But this right now is just painful. My biggest problem with the Jersey throwers of late is that I wonder why anyone would care about this group of disinterested bozos to that extent.

It's funny, because, in a lot of ways, it's had the opposite effect on me. I've really enjoyed watching them play a more controlled, even game. Even though they haven't had success in terms of results, I've really seen a fair amount of improvement on the ice. They're not getting dominated the way they used to, and that's encouraging. I know they're not going anywhere this season, but, seeing them get back to some actual structure has been more fun to watch than seeing them spending 2/3 of the game in the defensive end.

Correct.

I appreciate you waking up to respond.

You have no idea what a nice slumber I had going...

I know this is old - but everytime I saw 'correct' I think of this clip:

Joffrey Lupul returns to the #leafs lineup tonight against Arizona.

Lupul's back, so we've got a full forward line-up. Is that the first time this season?
