Coyotes @ Leafs - Jan. 29th, 7:30pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

MacKenzie saying tonight's loss is a sign from above, and to embrace it. We went from a 6% chance of winning draft lottery to a 7.5% chance in one night.

Atta boy Bob!!!

What's the record for the worst start ever by a new coach? Are we there yet?

The sens had an interim coach go 2-22-3 in his entire tenure before he was replaced in the same season he took over. The Caps had their first set of coaches go 4-45-5, 2-16-0 and 5-35-5. Horachek's first set of games have been bad - among the worst - but, there's been a lot of really poor records to for new coaches over the league's history.

I think what this game proved is that the Leafs really can't afford to be without Phaneuf for too long.  2 games has made that abundantly clear.

Unless I'm misreading, sample size trumps sarcasm?

Well I'll admit after the New Jersey game it was pretty clear they wouldn't miss him, that completely changed after this game.

He's not a bad player, just fortuned to bad things, brought about by bad people that should be ashamed but, instead, are rich.

When Ralph Kiner, Pittsburgh Pirates slugger of the 1950's, was negotiating his contract and his General Manager, the great Branch Rickey, refused to give his one star player a hefty raise his rationale was straightfoward:

"We finished in last place with you, we can finish in last place without you."

That's more or less where I am with Phaneuf.

How do you come to that conclusion when, outside of 2 garbage goals on Bernier's part, the defense was only responsible for one GA.

If anything these two games have convinced me he's expendable.

Aha!

So there I was...fast forwarding through the 2nd intermission...powerplay continues into the 3rd...put this game away...woh woh...not too fast...i missed the opening of the 3rd....wait what???  WTF?  (hits rewind)...that's not even possible...

"It can't get any worse than this...can it" (said every leaf fan 100 times over the last decade)

I also noticed the the fans were leaving much earlier last night as there were many empty seats at the final buzzer.

Just read through Siegel's game report. We seriously had Holland playing the point on the top PP unit? I understand the need to have a forward play a role there with Polak/Granberg/Holzer unable to but man, he should have been playing the point on the 2nd unit with Rielly or Gardiner (preferably Rielly) on the top unit.

When I saw Holland on the 1st PP unit, over Gardiner and Rielly, I thought to myself, "You've got to be kidding me."  What is it with the fascination of throwing a forward on D when there are two perfectly capable young d-men who could play the role?  Not to mention allowing them to gain experience and grow in the role.

It works if it is Ovechkin, or Sharp, or Krejci.  But Peter freakin' Holland?  What a complete joke this team is.
