Damn, and I totally thought 29 was a goalie number by default.  Should have remembered Pilar, didn't know Gill wore 29 before 23.

It looks like he couldn't take #23 in the 10 games of his first NHL season as it was taken by Jeff Brubaker.

Which sort of surprises me.  I thought a guy with the handle OldTimeHockey would love a player like Clarkson.

I never said I won't love him. And for all I know, he could be great. I just find it hard to believe, looking at his previous accomplishments that he'll live up to a 7 year, 5.25 contract.

I mean, I hope he continues to score at a 25-30 goal pace like 2 years ago. I hope that he turns 30, and suddenly grows a new set of hands, a better defensive mindset and continues to be a wrecking ball.

Although the statistical data on tough guys playing at a high level well into their 30s seems to be against him, I actually find Clarkson more of the player like Gary Roberts than Wendel Clark. Roberts kept himself in great shape, and managed to play at a high level until about age 37. After the full year lock-out and he left the Leafs, then he started to tail off badly. I hoping Clarkson fits more into the Roberts model for longevity sake.

Thanks!  :)

I wonder what it would take to have Gary Roberts as one of the Toronto Maple Leafs permanent trainers... Is he still associated with the Dallas Stars as a consultant?

With Roberts devotion to keeping fit, mind & body-wise (healthy eating, exercising, nutrition, etc.), a person like him could only help the Leafs in a positive aspect.  I'd say Nonis should go for it, too!

(Roberts  was helping Kypreos a month or so ago with making healthier food choices, in order for Kypreos to participate in a marathon race.  Roberts never fails to impress, for a player of his age is probably fitter than even some of the young draftees in the league.  Kudos to him for his dedication to health)!

Clarkson seems like the type of guy who can collect alot of the "garbage" type goals in front of the net like Andreychuk used to do.
