David Clarkson

Wow, a lot of hate for Clarkson. I know the results aren't there, but I don't think there's anyone giving more effort. The Leafs are a team that scores on the rush, and he's not an offensive fit with that style.

I was hoping he'd be a Gary Roberts type, which the Leafs have been missing since.. uhh.. Gary Roberts, but I don't think that even Gary would fit into the type of game the Leafs currently play as effectively.

But I'm certainly not writing Clarkson off.

I'm not writing him off either. Surely, his work to date has been disappointing. And, his previous body of work doesn't suggest he'll ever live up to the contract. But, I'm confident he can contribute a lot more than what he's shown so far.

actually I like Clarkson and said something in jest. I think he will take his place on this team at some place..just hard to be patient

The Sens & Oilers were courting Clarkson pretty hard - I know he was in town here the day before he decided to sign with Toronto. IIRC he left more $ on the table in Edmonton... things could obviously change but it has been one of those win by losing out situations.

Yeah, it appears that Clarkson sincerely wanted to play for Toronto.  I am disappointed that he has not been able to be the 3rd line agitator with offensive upside yet.

I still hope he can settle in.  I watched some of the Habs game last night and Therrien had Moen, Prust and White as his 4th line which worked well but is $5.1 mil in salary, that might bother some Leaf fans/media.  I wish the Leafs 4th line was McLaren / McClement / Clarkson.

This is Clarkson's 8th season:
.087 goals per game.  .17 assist per game.
This is Tie Domi's 8th season:
.100 goals per game.  .13 assist per game.

Wanted a Clark, got a Domi that can't fight.

Fun game.

I was hoping they weren't getting a Tucker in the season he got bought out.

Well, they didn't:
.24 goals per game, .22 assists per game.

And that was Tucker's 11th season.

Clarkson's strengths all lie in things the Leafs don't do as a team. That why his numbers suck. He's a poor fit for the game they are trying, or apparently not trying to play.

I don't know. Except for a season and half, haven't his numbers always kind of sucked? It seems possible that Clarkson was pursued so strongly, and overpaid so much, because his strengths, apart from the numbers, lie in things the Leafs didn't do as a team, and management overvalued things.

Steve Weiss, one of the other big UFA signing of summer 2013 has also been a disaster with the Wings.

Damien Cox, is it really you?  ;D

Clarkson for Weiss?

I would make that trade in a nano second.

2 less years and a few hundred K less as well.

Yup. That makes sense as well. Maybe Clarkson is just crap. Starting to lean that way...

Clarkson should have some gas in the tank tonight after sitting for two. Let's see if he can pop in a goal or two for the club.

Just in case you are wondering how much it would cost to buyout Clarkson

Saw it on capgeek.  Theres really only 1 or 2 significant years.  The rest are less than $2M or so.

I'd have bought him out yesterday.
