David Clarkson

Reading through the thread when he signed is a depressing experience.

Yeah, like the post where I tried to warn everyone how overrated he was and that the contract was ridiculous and had early buyout written all over it?

Before free agency season, I said I wouldn't be willing to sign him for anything more than $3.5M or for more than 4 seasons. I'm starting to feel like I was being too generous.

I hear ya man. Here is one of the comments I made back on free agency day.

"Doesn't skate well - very awkward stride, always falling down, doesn't pass and opts to throw the puck on net, not a good defensive player."

Yeah, its sad that joe average hockey fans like you and I can notice these deficiencies and see red flags, yet the Leafs inflated scouting and managerial staff can somehow fail to take notice...

I really hope this is being said tongue-in-cheek.  But, if it isn't, this is where I have to draw the line.  I get it, Clarkson has been awful this year.  Really, really disappointing.  But it's insane to presume a group of professional managers making a multi-million dollar investment didn't somehow "know" the deficiencies.  Without a doubt, they paid a premium for an unrestricted free agent, as most clubs do in early July.  If the casual fan saw issues in Clarkson's game, so did the Leafs front office.  I'm sure they're as disappointed as anyone, but don't make it seems like the peanut gallery is somehow more astute than the managers of the team.

I'm really not sure what's worse. A team knowing the deficiencies in Clarkson's game and giving him that contract, or a team not the deficiencies in Clarkson's game and giving him that contract.

The only explanation I can come to is that Rogers/Bell made the decision to sign Clarkson, and forced Nonis' hand.  That, or he was pulling a 'Rob Ford' when the decision was made.

Would suck to go out one night and wake up the next morning realizing you signed Clarkson.

I'm not sure if that girl is super cute or if standing next to Rob Ford just has that effect.

It almost looks like she's been Photoshopped into the picture to make it more appealing.

Clarkson is too worried about what clothes he'll buy with all his money to worry about something as silly as a hockey game.
