Deadline day thread

Tank is certainly going quite well, but I'd feel more confident going forward if we can unload at least one significant piece today - whether it be Phaneuf, Bozak, Lupul, Polak, or even Kessel. Sorry, Booth and Jokinen don't count!

At this time anything would be good.

Agreed.

If Nonis cannot get anyone moved today, in this trade atmosphere .... he's so toasted (as if he isn't already).

Do you honestly believe that Bozak or Lupul will have a serious impact on where the Leafs finish this year?

"This atmosphere"? Nobody with any term or of any significance has been dealt today.

With that kind of attitude, why trade anyone?

Not a massive impact.

But I'd much rather draft the picks I get back from them in 2015 as opposed to 2016 because 2015 is the deeper draft and all other things being equal, I'll see 2015 prospects a year sooner.

So you're saying, keeping Lupul and Bozak in the lineup, versus trading them for future assets and replacing them with, say, Leivo and McKegg in the lineup - has no potential impact on how/where the Leafs finish this year?

Wouldn't be surprised at all that now the trade deadline is passed (and they all looked untouchable because of injuries and horrible play) they turn it on and make a run to 9th or 10th.  It would be such a Leafs thing to do.

Sure, I'd be happy to trade both of them for what they might return. I just don't buy for a second the idea that they will have a significant impact on "the tank".

No. What I asked is if you honestly believe they'll have a serious impact on where they finish. The Leafs have been pretty bad with the two of them in the lineup.

Or the last 2 weeks for that matter.

I don't think you can trade Kessel without knowing if the Leafs won the lottery.  That's the only reason I would wait until the off-season.  If by some miracle we won the lottery, there would be no high end talented wingers for McDavid to play with if we were to trade Kessel today.  That, along with a potential higher return, is why I would wait on Kessel until the off-season.

That would be one of the main reasons I think of moving him. I'd hate to win the lottery just to have MLSE think they could now fast track a rebuilt just because of McDavid. Having Kessel gone would almost force them to stick to the plan.

Well, they'd have good reason to think they could because McDavid would fast track the rebuild: a generational talent at center; an elite scoring winger; a nicely developing center who routinely falls in the top 30 for ES production, penalties drawn, other fancy stats; two PMDs, one of whom looks like he could be a true 1D... And that's without knowing how Nylander and Brown turn out.

If the Leafs can't pry open a contending window with those pieces, they should burn it down. The ACC and most of downtown, I mean.  Haunted ground.

Should obviously still move everyone over 25 and not named Phil Kessel tho.

Came down from putting my daughter to bed and there was a Tyler Bozak montage on TSN. I thought he must be gone.

No such luck, apparently...

Could the NHL fine the Sabres for intentionally tanking. I mean, they've traded their #1 and #2 and are now rolling fringe goalies.

That's about as obvious as it gets.
