Ducks sign Mike Santorelli

I'm a little surprised Toronto didn't want him back at the same type of price point.

I wonder if guys like him and Franson are tainted somewhat by the tire fire that went on here.

I have to figure he really wanted to play there, or for a contender, or something.

He produced, and I didn't hear of any off-ice BS related to him.

They may have, but it's also likely that, when the Leafs filled up their roster, he wasn't willing to sign at that price point. With the way the rest of the summer played out in the free agent market, he obviously recognized that he'd have to take less than he was initially hoping for just to get an NHL contract. At this point in the summer, the Leafs don't have the roster space for him, and they also are at 49 contracts already. There's just no space for him right now.

I would imagine that his 4 points in 22 games after the trade hurt him a bit.  Producing in Toronto probably was viewed as an aberration and hurt his value when he couldn't replicate that level of production in Nashville.

So just a recap of that trade, it ended up being a currently unsigned Franson and a cheaply signed Santorelli for Brendan Leipsic, Travis Dermott, Jeremy Bracco, Martins Dzierkals, and a 2016 6th round pick. Not a bad haul.

I was wondering when someone would scoop Santorelli up. I thought his play with us last year should have netted at least $2M, but I guess the post-deadline performance was a non-starter for most teams looking to fill out their rosters.

It's a little unfair to him to judge him based on the small sample size with Nashville, he averaged about 11/12 minutes a night with them with poor linemates. He played about 18 minutes a night with decent linemates in Toronto and always put in a decent shift. The only thing he lacked in Nashville was a consistent opportunity to perform the same way that made Nashville want him in the first place.

The Ducks have done very well here and Mason might be well served to look for better representation.

I'll take understatements for $10 Million please Carlton.

Not to mention helping to secure the 4th overall draft pick by moving them.
