Expansion Draft

It seems like the consensus out there is that the Leafs are in talks with Vegas to flip  a D man Toronto's way.

Dumba looks like the best option. He's a right hand shot, good point shot, logs lots of minutes and is only 22.

Rumour has Vegas trying to sign Minnesota RFA Erik Haula as part of their exclusive negotiating period, which would take Dumba off the table.

Does it seem to anyone else that even the most trusted of the "insider" brigade have become much more unreliable over the past few years?

It's not even just in Toronto-centric coverage, it seems so many guys are predicting significant moves and at volume and it never materializes.

Maybe I'm getting older and more cynical, but it seems like every cycle of the draft, FA frenzy, trade deadline and now expansion leaves you with nothing but blue balls.

I guess trusting even the "respected" insiders is a fool's errand.

They're just trying to get followers, get page views, sell advertising....it's all marketing man!

Combining these two articles by subtract potential Leafs targets off the table due to deals in place equals the Leafs chasing one of: Ben Lovejoy, Colin Miller, Jason Demers, or Marc Methot. I would guess they wouldn't want the left hand shot of Methot leaving Lovejoy, Miller or Demers as options. I would eliminate Lovejoy based on age and Demers based on salary leaving us with Colin Miller.

Are my CSI skills up to snuff or am I barking up the wrong tree?

This seems like a strange time to bring this up on a day where all the insiders are slowly but surely getting all of Vegas' expansion draft selections which the NHL wanted to be kept secret until their big public reveal later tonight.

I thought Vegas' choices were going to be reported today (wed) at 10am.  Is that wrong? ... must be ... when is it?

10 AM was the deadline for submission. Not that there was going to be any repercussion for being late about it.

Dreger is reporting Leipsic will be Leaf selected.

Not impressed.  Not impressed at all.  On the upside I hope we spend 2.5M on Brian Boyle to create a 7 million dollar 4th line that scores 10 goals all year.

Yeah but keep in mind that due to the Leafs brain trust and their shrewd maneuvering the Knights won't have Matt Martin so will their talented young forwards even make it through their first game alive? Will they remember how to play hockey? Shanahan and the gang staying three steps ahead as usual!

If it makes you feel any better, Babcock was never gonna play Leipsic anyway.

I hope they bring Boyle back also.

That's a fair point, I was mostly referring to the trade stuff.

They've been promising action since before the trade freeze, then it was going to be after the trade freeze this morning and now today it's being pushed to tomorrow apparently.

I don't doubt after tomorrow it'll be "teams want to see what they can do in FA before making trades."

Not sure if GM's are just obnoxiously gun shy or as Frank said, the insider brigade are just full of it and trying to create buzz.

I think the buzz was legit, but it sounds like McPhee's pledge of allegiance on side deals put a kibosh on a lot of moves.
