Would you have Jagr in the top 30 in scoring this year?

Like I said if he can stay motivated yeah I think he can do it. He'd obviously have to stay healthy too but he's never really had a problem doing that. For me it all depends on his mood.

He's probably the toughest player in the entire league to predict right now. He could go anywhere from 40-70 points really.

I think he's of the mindset that he's still got something to prove - hopefully that benefits us as hockey fans!

At this point my guess would be on the lower end of that spectrum, not top 30 fwiw but he's playing on a decent team and if he stays healthy and motivated he could do better. I wouldn't bet anything on him.

Okay say I have a middle pick in my snake draft... 12-15 guys. Am I a fool for taking Selanne (17th/18th overall) in the 2nd round AND Jagr 30/31 overall) in the 3rd?

I think that's pretty early for the both of them.

With both players being a bit long in the tooth I'd say so, maybe only take one of them ( you can guess who I'd suggest... ;) )

Just for an example, take a look at the draft results for our Hacker Hockey league. Kopitar and Parise were taken 17/18th overall. And right after them two of the top goalies in the league (Miller and Rinne) were selected. Zetterberg, Kovalchuk, and Staal went in the early 30s. Selanne and Jagr's best projected season would likely be right around an average/bad season for those guys. Even one round later guys like Richards, Giroux, Tavares, Semin, Heatley, and Gaborik were picked. And I'd take all those guys ahead of Selanne and Jagr any day of the week.

I can't tell you where they should go, but there are a lot of forwards in the league who you can project to be at around 70 points. Some are safer than others, and I'd say Selanne and Jagr fall under the risky category (Jagr especially).

And I agree with Tigger. Try to take one, not both.

Lemieux over Gretzky?  No kidding.
Mike Bossy is ranked 4th all-time over Crosby.

How did anyone come to this?  No "fantasy" situation, the stars of yesterday were ranked according to how they would stack up to circa 2011.  Read on:

Hockey Greats vs 2011 Stars
Who is the greatest player ever? How would the stars of the past do against in today?s NHL? These are the age-old questions that fans love to argue about. We can concede that there can?t be a definitive answer. Comparing Maurice Richard with Sidney Crosby must take into account elements that are immeasurable; the overall quality of play in the league and on an individual?s team, training and coaching, equipment enhancements, rule changes, travel and physical size. However we can rely on statistics to put the achievements of the past and present into a clearer perspective.

The following 12 great players from past years were selected; Maurice Richard, Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Dave Keon, Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Paul Coffey, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, Marcel Dionne and Mike Bossy. We also took a previous career-high season of Sydney Crosby?s. In the cases of Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull, post-1967 expansion seasons were eliminated and for Maurice Richard, the war-time years were not considered.

A nice mix of vets & youngsters.  :)

Who would you rather have on your team, Zach Parise or Patrick Kane?  I am debating making a trade because I am worried about Parise getting back into shape.  I think he has the potential to be better since he is generally a 40 goal scorer when healthy but Kane is consistantly good year to year.
