Flames vs. Maple Leafs - Mar. 17th, 7:30pm - Prime, Fan 590

Domi is scoring, McMann and Robertson scored, Matthews scoring again, PP hitting, Holmberg being a pesty player (still stone hands tho), Woll put up a .923...I guess everything is fixed now! Bring on the playoffs right now.

How does OEL get 2 even strength points and still end up a minus 1 in a 2 goal game? Must have jumped off the ice before someone scored?

Anyone else notice how slow Jarnkrok is? Maybe he lost something with the sports hernia but he looks slow out there.
Some stats per NHL edge:

Games PlayedTop SpeedSpeed bursts 18-20 mphSpeed bursts over 20mph
24/25620.9125 (4.2 per game)3 (0.5 per game)
23/245221.93278 (5.3 per game)66 (1.3 per game)
22/237322.37464 (6.4 per game)101 (1.4 per game)

Hernia injury/surgery and the time off from that probably hasn't helped but father time comes for us all and he's turning 34 in the offseason. I've always been a Jarnkrok fan, even with his playoff stats being what they are, but yeah this is a concerning trend.

He really just looks like a warm body out there. At this point it feels like even Pontus Holmberg is better than him.

Well we've got 15 more games to see if this is just rust or not. Not willing to count him out entirely yet but I suspect Kampf eventually works his way back into the line-up and if Pacioretty is healthy for game 1 of the playoffs I can't see Berube sitting him so there's still some competition for forward spots.

After going back and forth about it, I decided to watch the game last night. Figured if it looked like "another one of those nights" I'd turn it off after the first 5 or 10 minutes. Instead, it turned out to be one of the good "one of those nights."

Nice to see the team come out and put away an obviously inferior opponent and especially nice to see Matthews score a couple of "real" goals and look more like his old self. Some other semi-random thoughts,

1) Robertson...nice goal, stupid careless penalties but I bet other teams are going to really start to hate playing against him. He does a lot of annoying little things, finishes checks and cross-checks opponents all over the ice...at some point he may have to answer for some of that so I hope he took fighting lessons from Reeves.

2) Domi starting to score and overall look more engaged would be huge heading into the playoffs. That said, don't know if that third line will be able to handle the grind in a 7 game series against Florida with both him and Robertson.

3) Agree with Jarnkrok looking "done" but he did miss almost all of the season and just got back. Also didn't realize he was almost 34 so yeah, that's probably a big part of it.

4) Regarding Nylander and the "scrum" - after 8 years of watching the Leafs core players turn and skate toward the bench while teammates are getting mobbed after the whistle, any kind of contribution is appreciated. He's been involved in a few of those lately as well as using his body a bit more. Let's see if he is so willing to engage that way when the opponent is a Bennett or Tkachuk.

Oh, and if any player ever needed to spend an off season working on puck and shooting skills, his name is Holmberg. He's got a lot of other good traits and willingness to do the dirty work - almost reminds me a bit of early Hyman though not as fast/good in the corners. If he could only finish a bit...
