Game Notes
PHI
-Ivan Fedotov (4-4-2, 3.42 GAA, .877 Sv%) will likely start for the Flyers
TOR
-Joseph Woll (13-6-0, 2.48 GAA, .914 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
-Toronto will of course be missing Jake McCabe for the second stretch of the season. No firm update has been given on his status but he's been placed on the IR keeping him out until at least Jan. 14th

Yeah, expected. Reaves playing once every 3-5 games is fine. Lorentz getting a bump up is deserved too and might be a fun look with Pacioretty, letting the Maxes focus a bit more on scoring rather than forechecking.

Berube played hockey. He coached hockey. He has a ring. He knows what intelligent experienced hockey requires: Play Reaves and send a signal to the league that you can't f@ck w the Leafs rookie goaltender.

I don't really get the retribution angle. Like McCabe started the fight and his injury almost certainly came from hitting the ice afterward not any actual punches thrown by Hathaway. McCabe's injury isn't on Hathaway it's just another reason in the long list of them for why fighting is dumb in general.
It was an awkward fall in a fight that McCabe started. I don't think Hathaway deserves a bounty either.

After Hathaway got up off the ice, he quickly shucks his gloves, grabs McCabe by the sweater, pulls him in and starts punching him in the head. There was no indication or agreement on Hathaway's part that he would partake in fisticuffs. Hathaway gets in a couple punches before McCabe even has a chance to get his gloves off.

All this, because Hathaway takes a run at Hildeby. McCabe had a pretty good hook on Hathaway as he was heading to the net. It looked liked McCabe was trying to keep Hathaway from Hildeby.

Check the second angle. It's the punch PLUS the fall on McCabes head. See the punch by Hathaway as both are falling. McCabes head snaps back.

And a split second later McCabes head hits the ice with Hathaway on top of the head shoulder and arm driving into the head (I'm not saying intentionally).

So yah..... McCabe got crushed.... double shots to the head.

My guess is that tonight, an 'organic' fight won't happen and so it will mostly be some heavy checks being thrown around. But if a fight does go down.....then its gonna be like Foligno v Perry where Perry didn't intentionally hurt 91, but Foligno had to do something.

I kind of hate fights like that tbh.

I'll agree that Hathaway probably started things too quickly but I mean McCabe can't exactly act surprised a fight started with what he was doing.

That was not a "run" man. Both Hathaway and McCabe were just trying to go for a puck that was thrown towards the net and Hildeby was right at the top of the crease. You had three (big) players basically all trying to fight for the same spot on the ice. Things like that happen every game and the collision wasn't even that big. Sure if he got "Lucic on Miller'd" I'd be all for trying to send a statement there but you can't risk CTE every time a player skates around the net.

Ill be shocked if Hathaway drops the mitts with Reaves. Whatever though. I don't like that 3rd line at all but I get moving McMann up to try and get that line going.

the bump on Hildeby was pretty standard game action.. I get why McCabe was pissed ... the still photo of Hathaway landing on him looks bad.. is that why Berube was referring to " I didn't like what i saw"... ?

McCabe was punching Hathaway while he down on the ice. He can't blame anyone but himself for what happened afterward.
