Fraser to Edmonton

This is an interesting trade. At the very least it piques my interest, because Hartikainen at one point was pretty well regarded by the Oilers.

Actually, not that it means anything considering the source, but Oilers fans were pretty hyped about him.

Solid move.

Fraser told reporters today that he tore his mcl in second game of year. Pretty serious injury.

Fraser's a stand up guy. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Here's a write-up an Edmonton blog posted about Hartikainen in the summer: http://www.coppernblue.com/2013/8/8/4600914/11-teemu-hartikainen-top-oilers-prospects-top-25-under-25

edit: the article notes that he's signed in Russia for this season and next.

Anybody notice this in that article:

Secondly, he was unlucky. As in, historically unlucky. In over 196 minutes of icetime at 5 on 5 play, he was not on the ice for one goal for. Zero. Zero goals were scored while he was on the ice. Teemu skated around an NHL rink for three hours and 16 minutes of even strength gameplay, and not one goal was scored. I'm not making this up -- you could literally have watched Titanic through the end credits (195 minutes) in the time that Harski was on the ice at even strength this year without being on the ice for a goal. That has to be some kind of record.

And it almost is. Harski's 196 minutes of icetime without being on the ice for a goal is the third highest such total recorded since the advanced stats age began in 2007. Here's a list of the top 20 seasons by a forward in the NHL since 2007 by icetime without being on the ice for an even strength goal:

In the table following (sorry, couldn't get it to paste here) take a look at who's #4.  Just sayin,' as they say.

We still own the rights to Komarov right?

Hartikainen's 27 pts seem respectable.

Maybe there's a future 4th line with Finnish Book-ends? Komarov- McLement- Hartikainen.

1 thing is for sure. We have plenty of players/prospects on the team and in the wings for 4th line duties and yet we still see McLaren and Orr  :-\

They do, but they're also kind of meaningless. He's a UFA this summer and he can't play in the NHL this season - he's an RFA right now, and RFAs without a contract have to be signed by December 1st to play in the NHL that season.

I hope Fraser gets healthy and becomes a solid D for Edmonton. He was a different defenseman last year, and was hard to play against.

I don't know anything about the prospects, but considering Loiselle's comments, I'm guessing this was equally about clearing cap space in the short term.

Hartikainen may be a cheaper and younger version of Komarov

I don't know about that. Right now Komarov is free when he's not on the active roster ^_^

I thought Fraser was a player with negative value -- ie, we'd have to give up a pick to clear his cap space.  I'm glad we could dump him for nothing.

I don't think they'd trade a draft pick to save 350k of cap space, 925k would come off if they demoted him.
