Are the anchors saying the Leafs are in 3rd in the conference? ... Pretty easy to look at nhl.com and see that they're in 2nd.

I thought I heard something like '3rd overall'.  :-\

That's what they were saying, because, that's what they are - behind the Pens and the Hawks.

Wow - amazing parity in the standings on both the East and West sides.  Very nice to see.

the standings are rediclous though, 2 points out of first overall 6 points from 23rd overall.  With the parody they really should take the extra point away from overtime losses to raise the competition

Yeah, no points for an OTL wouldn't be a horrible idea.  The parity is a nice change from the days when Detroit would just run away with it though.

Gardiner second only to Beauchemin in overall toi for the game...

He was really a star in this one... I'm kind of surprised how he's kind of being ignored in the MotM votes.

Gardiner has led his team in ice time in the last two games (28 mins in Dallas and 25 mins tonight). On the season, he's at 19:57 mins/game. I think Phaneuf is playing a little hurt and they've given Luke & Jake the baton for a bit. In my mind, he's playing better than Kaberle & Markov when they broke in though it's early and he may yet hit a wall. Regardless, he's been pretty remarkable so far considering he's a rookie.

Apart from that Adam fella in Buffalo, is there a more impressive rookie in the league? I can't think of one off the top of my head.

I just caught the last period, punctuated by Aulie's horrible play on Perry's goal.  I really liked what I saw from Gardiner.  Good thing we've won 3 straight - next 2 games against our nemesis.

I really wish Phil would just light it up against them to get that monkey off his back.

He had two goals against them in one of the games last season.

In Boston too!

I also heard them say Anaheim was last. Columbus is behind them in pts and win%. But they're not far off.

Nugent-Hopkins for one.

Jesus. Yeah, him... and I suppose Seguin still has rookie status, doesn't he?

No Seguin played like 70 games last year he lost it.

Matt Read for the Flyers is pretty damn impressive.  RNH is the Calder winner a quarter in though.

Ah, okay... How I forgot about "the Nuge" is beyond me. Maybe he's so good, I forgot he was a rookie!

Nice of them to give Jonas a 'soft' part of the schedule... ;)

There's a long, long way to go this season, but it would be hilarious if it turns out the Leafs received a top 10 (or better :) ) Art Ross guy and a top 5 Calder guy for Beauchemin.

Toronto improved to 9-0 when leading after the third period thanks to a late third penalty kill

Isn't that kind of like saying 5 people were killed in a crash, 3 of them seriously?

I guess they were trying to refer to leading after the second and Wilson mentioned they were the only team in the league to not blow a 3rd period lead, maybe he is fishing for that extension...;)

Impressive, reading that gave me a flashback to the Raycroft era when no third period lead was safe.

Nice win for a change sans shootout.  Another solid outing for Gustavvson, with offense provided by the likes of Bozak, Crabb, Colborne & co.  This is he way the team needs to be when not relying always on Kessel (or even Lupul) for the important goals, not that it's something so bad but to even out the scoring from other lines gives the team the depth it requires in order to get the job done.

Would like to see Kulemin and Grabbo (when he returns) up their offensive totals.

Grabo did return. In the game you're summarizing. Just a heads up.
