Game 28: New Jersey Devils vs Toronto Maple Leafs OTL3-2

Wow...not the best game by the Leafs. Terrible 1st half of the game and just couldn't come back 2nd half. 1 pt is better than none I guess.

Bleah.  Well, they came back from 2 down to get a point.  But they really outplayed the Devils, it would have been nice to get that 2nd one.

They deserved that to be honest.  The Leafs have some terrible coverage on 4 on 4 play.  They leave guys open way too much...they don't pick up the trailer...or they go after the trailer and leave one of the first two guys on a lot of plays.

Gunnar really should've been somewhere in the vicinity of Clarkson. Instead he had his butt right in Reimer's face.

He was ashamed to face him after looking like a dummy on that one-timer attempt.

Man Reimer was deep in the net on that OT goal.

And probably the worst game I've ever seen Gunnarsson play.

But I won't complain with 3 hard fought points out of 4 in a back to back.

Hopefully just some rust.  7 goals given up by Reimer in his two games back so far although I don't think he has played poorly either, just some stuff that needs to be cleaned up in his game.

Brodeur put on one heck of a clinic playing the puck behind the net tonight

I think the Leafs had a bit of 'mental fatigue' because they weren't dumping the puck into the right spot, kind of just dumping it in and it would go to Brodeur.

I thought it was also ridiculous that the Leafs did not get a 2nd PP until the end of regulation.

Leafs will be fine. Coming off probably their best performance of the season last night, they get down by two early, and still rally back to get a point.

First off refs didn't cost the Leafs the game tonight but man the last few games its seems the Leafs can't get a call.

Leafs got a point. I'm happy Devils or not they battled back to tie.

Reimer wasn't good on the 2nd goal, don't think he had much of a chance on the winning goal.  He did make some huge saves to keep the Leafs in the game at 2-1 and 2-2, remember the chance with about 3 minutes to go in the 3rd, Leafs almost lost outright.  This was his first game back against an opponent not named Boston, so I think he needs a few games to get back in the groove and comfortable again.  He looked better as the game went on, i'm sure with a few more games he'll be playing as well as we expect.

I'm not worried about Reimer at all.  When Gus was thrust into the starting role, it took him a little bit to get his groove and feel comfortable.  Heck Scrivens even 'surpassed' him for a bit their.  Then Gus settled in and played very well for a good stretch.  Reimer had 6 weeks off, didn't practice for a bunch of them and was thrust in against the hottest team in the NHL, and the 2nd of a back to back (where his team didn't show up at all in the first period).

All things considered I actually think he's played pretty well in his 2 games.  Nothing to worry about quite yet.

Oh Gunnarsson...  ???

Reimer shoulda had that shot though. Oh well.

Gunnarson also made a glaring drop-back passing error in the @Boston game, with the puck landing smack on a Bruins' stick for a goal.

In tonight's game, (last night's game), he (Gunnarson) should have been in front of Clarkson, not blocking Reimer's path of view.

Speaking of Reimer, he needs to get loosened up and get his groove back, so to speak.  Anyone would need a few games to get themselves back into the thick of things.  Reimer being no exception.

Yep i'm not worried about Reimer at all.  He's missed so much time he'll need a few games to get back into the feel of things.  I'm actually hoping that when he does hit his groove, he'll be fresh for the remainder of the season, given that he hasn't had a workload to speak of yet.
